First wave of attack

Post by Raz »

A large fleet of modified fishing trawlers made its way over the Sandy River, nearing the shores of Constancia. As news had arrived that Constancia had placed mines on the river and on the lakes, Jingdaoese tactics had adopted. Fishermen who frequented the area, some of them Constancian, some of them state-less, had been captured by special units from the Imperial Navy that had been trained in the Maritime Free Republic. Their trawlers were then reconfigured with small rapid-firing guns and sent through the mined waterways, the battleships and troops following from a safe distance in their path. Entirely safe was it now however, one frigate was lost to the sea mines, its crew left to drown. Grand Marshall Xi was furious about the mines, considering it a dishonest way of fighting. As soon as they reached the vicinity of Constancia, the battleships were ordered to start their bombardment. Cruise missiles were launched in large waves, targetting the Constancian radar stations and airfields. Xi had access to the nuclear arsenal of Jingdao and was willing to use it, but the Imperial Chancellor had not allowed him to "level Constancia and make it uninhabitable for the next thousand daor". The Imperial Chancellor had even ordered him to launch an amphibous attack on Constancia... Xi cursed as he considered it.

As the fleet regrouped before the coast of Constancia thousands of Jingdaoese soldiers ran towards their amphibous assault ships, their dingies and their hovertanks. They set course to land just north of Portus Felix.

As thousands of men and women stormed the beaches of Constancia together, fire was opened on them with machine guns but most of the damage was done by improvised explosive devices that seemed to be scattered all over the place. Xi had expected this and for this reason only orphans were sent in the first wave, mostly the sons and daughters of political criminals, who had been raised by the state and hooked on drugs that made them very docile and willing to do anything for the state. Many of them died, but no letters had to be sent to relatives. The only letters that had to be sent were those to the Church, the sacrifice of the children paid part of the punishment the parents had to endure in the Afterlife and the Church would have to inform the Gods of this. Enemy troops defending the river bank were quickly defeated, with many casualties at both sides.

Civilians that were trying to escape the city of Portus Felix found themselves caught between the Jingdaoese troops and the city that was under bombardment. Some of them tried to make their way through Jingdaoese lines, most of them died as the soldiers opened fire on them. Others returned to the city with an uncertain fate. Very few tried to fight the soldiers, throwing rocks at them. While no one could deny them their bravery, their lives were quickly taken by bullets from a dozen Jingdaoese rifles. Most of the citizens that found themselves surrounded quickly surrendered and most of them were forcefully dragged to the beaches where rubber dinghies would shuttle them to the Jingdaoese fleet. A few of them where so unlucky to be caught by the panzer division of the Jingdaoese army and they were introduced to a technique that Emperor Heinrich had devised himself. They were strapped to the Jingdaoese tanks, while they were still alive. Any Constancian soldier who would wish to fire a grenade at the tank, would killl his own countrymen.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it a Militiaman falling from a great height with a limpet mine strapped to his chest? Whatever it may be, look out below.

Btw, what are the numbers of ships and soldiers we currently have in this war (on the battlefield or ready to be deployed into the region soon)? Would be nice to have some details from both sides (for the wiki page).
