A New Flag
Re: A New Flag
To what? I'm quite satisfied with this one myself, but if you have a better idea, it's welcome of course.

Re: A New Flag
Well, just conjecturing. For example:
The three lions for the Brettish Isles, the one lion for New Brettania, the rose for... whatever the rose means. And the equal colors.

Re: A New Flag
The three lions could be representative of the current dynasty (even though it isn't really a dynasty). The rose could represent Nova England. Otherwise I like Lord Amherst's most recent proposal.

Re: A New Flag
I do to, perhaps the white lion can be placed more central though.

Re: A New Flag
Yeah, I agree. I might have to shrink the lion to center it, unless someone has a better method.
And I think Arthur has good ideas for meaning: the three lions represent the Brettish Isles collectively, the silver lion represents New Brettania, and the rose represents Nova England.

Re: A New Flag
The original meaning of the CoA was: lions passant: Brettish nation; rose: De Montfort family crest; Cross: Brettish Church.

Re: A New Flag
I edited the flag, and I moved the lion a bit. Does it look OK?
Indeed, I still am fond of the idea that we style ourselves the "United Commonwealth of Brettania."
Quite, quite. Perhaps this is like when the coat of arms changed when Great Britain became the United Kingdom? The original meaning of the CoA was: lions passant: Brettish nation; rose: De Montfort family crest; Cross: Brettish Church.

Re: A New Flag
Given the planned colonial expansions, it may be prudent to move towards a Commonwealth. However we can leave that for another discussion.
I like the latest version of the flag. The cross isn't necessary since we don't have an active Brettish Church, and personally I'm more for a secular state. We could structure things so that the De Montfort family has roots in Nova England, thus tying the two together (one symbol, two meanings). Although why do we have the charge twice? We could replace one with the Delvenusian symbol of a circlet of five stars.

Re: A New Flag
Well, I just kept it in there for symmetry. The five stars of Delvenus could work. We could also do the sword of the Kingdom of Saxevenus, since it influenced the northern part of the Isles. Or even dragon or harp for our Celtic-themed territories.

Re: A New Flag
I like it like this, we don't need to represent all territories and colonies. The British didn't put India in their CoA either. I think that the repetition of the lions rampart gives a good balance, and it also makes that these arms are similar to the old ones, which is a good thimg. We need some continuity in this nation. I agree with you on the church/state thing, although the Brettish Church was originally meant to be some kind of CoE.

I agree, I also think the symmetry in this version looks better.

Re: A New Flag
Very much so. So, if you could manage to place the white lion slightly more central, we can have an official vote. I think that we need a parliament form for something this important.

Managed to put the lion somewhat more central. I guess we can vote on this now.
