Recognition of the Vraillan Isles

Post by Thadeus Laing »

Greetings Your Excellency,

I am the Chair of the Governing Council of Ergonia, a nation
which is a neighbor to the Vraillan Isles. My visit here is to start
the process to develop what I hope will become a close alliance.
Hopefully the Vraillan leadership would like the same.

A treaty of recognition would be ideal, if the Vraillan Isles
is open to one. After that, we could work on other agreements,
perhaps including a ferry link. That is only if the Vraillan Isles
is interested or willing of course.

Kindly,

Thadeus Lange Jr

OOC: My apologies for the delay in response, I've been busy with real life.

Good day, Mr Lange, and welcome to Vraillan Isles, a wholly owned subsidiary of VBNC. I'm here on behalf of VBNC's public relations division. From the outset, we'd like to clarify several matters. First and foremost, the Vraillan Isles is not a distinct geopolitical entity, but rather property - the sole property of VBNC, everyone's favourite monolithic multinational! In terms of geopolitics, it (and Glanurchy) are a special region within the Kingdom of Toketi, which, being soley owned and managed by VBNC, is afforded certain privileges - tax free status, private law enforcement etc. - as it had already enjoyed under the Gralan Empire. We can neither confirm or deny rumours that we are diverting some of our vast capital to build our own private navy, and in particular can neither confirm or deny any the rumours that that navy may not be primarily based in water. As such, foreign politics are the purvey of the Kingdom of Toketi, which has continued to follow that most sensible of foreign policy documents drawn up by the earlier Lord General, which among other things means they see no purpose in treaties of recognition (functionally, they recognise all nations recognised by the MCS unless they specifically say otherwise), so, for all intents and purposes, they do recognise you exist, for all that it's worth.

That out of the way, VBNC recognises every and all markets on Micras, and anywhere else we can trade GELT or turn a profit :NCU: . If you would like to enter into a financial relationship, we're listening. We'd be happy to provide a ferry link between our tourist isles and your fair land, leveraging our existing Kildfare services.

The character Andreas the Wise is on indefinite leave. But he does deserve a cool war ribbon.

However, this account still manages:
Vincent Waldgrave - Lord General of Gralus
Manuel - CEO of VBNC. For all you'll ever need.
Q - Director of SAMIN
Duke Mel'Kat - Air Pirate, Melangian, and Duke of the Flying Duchy of Glanurchy
Cla'Udi - Count of Melangia
Vur'Alm Xei'Bôn - Speaker of Nelaga, Minister of Interior Affairs, and a Micron

Most Excellent Andreas,

Thank you for your reply. Occasionally I do like to take vacations
from my regular duties in Ergonia as well, going on safaris, sailing
jaunts, religious pilgrimages, etc., so I perfectly understand.
As the CEO of a vast conglomerate such as VBNC, Your Excellency,
you are probably a very busy person anyway, so we appreciate
even the briefest of moments you can give to the discussion of
the possibility of diplomatic ties with Ergonia.

Your Excellency, it is beneficial to us that Toketi has, as you
have stated, a general policy of recognizing the existence of
all other nations that have approved claims on the MCS map.
By virtue of this fact, as you have stated, Toketi recognizes
Ergonia. While Ergonia's Governing Council generally prefers
to use recognition treaties, it respects the decision of Toketi
to not use them. Therefore, I will ask the Council to approve
a Resolution extending formal diplomatic recognition to The
Kingdom of Toketi, and by implication the Vraillan Isles and
VBNC's legal control over them, instead.

Your Excellency, I note with some inquisitiveness your
mention of the possibility of the construction of a navy
by VBNC, which I assume would have patrol routes and
a sphere of influence around the Vraillan Isles. As a
courtesy and gesture of respect, I will advise the
appropriate officials in our government of this
development so that they can make any accommodations
which might be necessary; for example, training our
sailors on recognizing the VBNC or Toketian flags,
conducting themselves in a respectful manner towards
VBNC/Toketian sailors and officers as representatives
of a friendly nation which we recognize, and striving
to communicate useful information that might be
helpful to the VBNC/Toketian sailors, such as a weather
data or the routes of commercial vessels traversing the
Taylor Bay district (if the navy is to be sea-based.)

With respect to economic cooperation in various areas, I will
keep our government informed. I like the idea of Kildfare
Airships. Whether the inter-island ferry link is via Airship or
an sea-based ferry is probably immaterial to us; both would
be fine. I do assume our Interior Directorate would need to
issue an aviation permit before travel can begin. By the way,
just a small mention: occasionally pilots flying in from other
nations will notice, at night or at dusk, faintly glowing columns
at the edges of Ergonian airspace. In the very rural villages,
common folklore always said that the columns were 'magic dust
dropped accidentally by fairies or elves.' Numerous studies have
been conducted that have shown that it is harmless to human
and animal health, and in fact that it is more benign
than the typical aurora borealis, and in fact was widely
believed by the more educated masses to be exactly that.
It was rather interesting then when, upon my taking office,
a respected general informed me that this phenomenon was
actually a man made system officially known as Molecular
Array Defense System (MADS), constructed by Ergonia at the
dawn of the atomic era and still maintained to this day. Other
than that, I have no idea about how it works or how it is used.
My plane passes through it all the time. Your Excellency,
your airship pilots would have nothing to worry about

As for this GELT concept to which you have referred, Your Excellency,
our Council is currently undecided as to whether Ergonia wishes
to participate, due to lack of data on our side. I will dispatch my
Directorate of Economics to pay you a visit shortly; he will be able
to be more detailed and in depth about such topics, in conversations
with you or your deputies. We have noticed that you have
approved our application to the highly regarded SCUE organization;
I send our gratitude for that decision as we will now be able to
pay for goods and services in that excellent currency system.
I can say that Ergonia may have much to offer VBNC, primarily
as far as natural resources, notably minerals and agricultural
products, as well as trading routes to which it could potentially
have enhanced access, are concerned.

If there is anything else in particular, Your Excellency, anything at all,
which you would like to discuss, besides that which has already been
mentioned and/or discussed, or any changes or statements regarding
the nature of Ergonian-Vraillan-Toketian ties that you would like to
make, Ergonia is prepared to listen and, to the extent that it is possible,
provide the Vraillan-Toketians the utmost of consideration in meeting
its goals and plans, towards the possibility of creating an even stronger
alliance.

Regards,

Thadeus Lange Jr
Chair of the Ergonian Governing Council
