Ode to the Remnants

Post by Ryker »

They were once joyous. They were prosperous lovers of the arts. They loved their ruler’s nearly as much as their rulers loved them. They have fallen so. They’ve no love for anything for they have nothing to love them back. There remain many who love what they once had been, but never since they’d been abandoned had they been loved for who and what they are. Cities turned to towns, and towns to empty shells. What little music and poetry that can be mustered is drowned out by the passive and longing sighs of those who still mourn all that has been lost to them. The playfully muddied roads have dried and turned to a pale and empty dirt. The cats have returned to their wild roots, feral and cunning, but saddened by the sight of those few left who once worshiped them. The rolling hills look old and bitter. Once charming houses on the countryside have become rotten and infested with termites. What few octalune caravans remain have become the scourge of towns who have little to protect themselves with. They were once a happy people. They have become lost.

This harrowing picture at the County level, was at least, not mirrored to such an extent in Teldrin which houses the (somewhat fortified) headquarters of the ESB Group and has benefited from the Royal Grants received in its favour, conferring a monopoly on trade.

(BTW, would it be possible to discuss some sort of arrangement for municipal autonomy for Teldrin?)
