Question

Post by Thadeus Laing »

Your Excellency Theoaster,

I have noticed that the government of the Shirerithian Imperial State Elwynn
has issued a 'fatwa' against me, you, and my distant cousin Iakavos Raynor.
It states that you and I "shall be considered enemies of the people's
socialist revolutionary struggle." The text of this statement may be read
here: http://bastionunion.org/forum/viewtopic ... 26#p104126.
Now, I hardly ever visit Elwynn. Even so, the reports of this statement and
decision are annoying to me as an Aryasht member of the nobility. If I were you,
I would be annoyed as well. Also, the text of the Elwynnese statement states
that we are considered enemies of the "the people's socialist revolutionary struggle."
In other words, we are now considered enemies of their government. This
statement has been moved by their Presidium and just now approved by the
Standing Committee.

As a member of the Aryasht nobility, such statements against me would, at least in
Montauk, result in immediate detention, multiple public lashings (at least 50
in number) as well as possibly a large fine (at least 5,000 Erb). However I respect
that in other areas and lands, where social mores are different, that the royalty can be
criticized freely by the populace, and where even the government has by anti-
monarchism removed the monarchy. This has been our policy from the beginning.

This action by Elwynn seems to me to be an action of the anti-monachism and collectivist
movements which have become predominant in Elwynn today. Rather than diminish
after the Elwynnese government collapse which occurred there recently, these movements
returned in Elwynn and are increasing in power. Other recent interesting developments
in Elwynn: recent Elwynnese territorial adjustments near Shirekeep and the return of Malliki.

My dear son-in-law, what do you plan to do? Should not Aryasht retaliate and
declare some Elwynnese as enemies of esteemed Prince Aryanath's Aryashti Imperial State?
How can we show that Aryashti royalty cannot be insulted by the government of
another Imperial State of Shireroth in such a manner?

Sincerely,

Thadeus Melanje II
Lord of Montauk

(If this edict from Elwynn was intended to target members of the Melanje
extended family, it is odd that Iakavos was included, as he is rather a rather
unimportant figure. I have never seen him at any of the reunions at the Melanje
family compound and vineyard.)

Lord Thadeus,

Elwynn is all around the globe from us; do not worry so much. Have not you been on such lists by them before, along with your former friend Barentsz? Think of it as a badge of honor.

I will have the State Police Force look into issuing a travel advisory for the members of the Melanje family, to let them know to avoid travel to Elwynn. Other than that, I see little else necessary at this point.

Godspeed,

Theoaster
Shogun of Aryasht
This character is now deceased.
