LUN EZKARON REFERENDUM A LANDSLIDE VICTORY

Riqistades (Lun Ezkaron) – With the approval and oversight of the governments of Greater Mishalan, Amokolia, and Elwynn, the referendum on Lun Ezkaron’s secession was held successfully. Polling stations were established throughout the southeast, and teams of volunteers and officials were on hand to assist people with checking registrations and casting votes. People who had, in their entire lives previously, never cast a vote before showed up to vote on the referendum. But the massive turnout only served to solidify the choice even more – Lun Ezkaron chose overwhelmingly to join Elwynn Proper. The decision brings to a close the long series of ethnic clashes and disputes that has caused massive change in Amokolia, but also sets the stage for even more changes to come.

After weeks of working to get voters registered, determine the boundaries of Lun Ezkaron, establishing polling stations, and working around crews doing repairs to damages caused by the rioting, it was finally deemed adequate to conduct the vote. Nearly a million people packed the voting booths, quickly overwhelming local crews and forcing the union government to send assistance. After four days spent tallying and verifying the votes, the government announced the referendum passed, and the executive committee endorsed the document, stating it would support the decision.

Crews continue to repair damages caused by the rioting between and even among ethnic groups of Elw and Amokolians. The reasoning behind the rioting groups remains varied, which has made it difficult for the administration to satiate all parties. The largest contingent, that of the Elw separatists, has apparently been satisfied by the referendum. Smaller groups of protestors remain – mostly discontented Amokolians who wish to remain part of Amokolia and/or Greater Mishalan. But for the most part these are small, isolated incidents and many people just want to see things return to a state of normalcy.

Anun has reported that talks are now under way that will effect a complete restructuring of the government. Premier Orion Ilios and his cabinet have been in meetings with Greater Mishalan’s Chairman Sasha Rykov and the Mishalanski Politburo, as well as Leng’s Timeless Shadow Sinestra Targon and their Shadow Council. The three groups are hammering out the details of a planned joint statement that will involved an overhaul of the executive system of Amokolia, paving the way for changes aimed to meet the needs of each region and ensure equal executive administration. Leaders hope to have the first set of changes penned by the end of the month, ideally giving the Elwynnese Senate enough time to approve the border changes effected by the referendums.

The Bear Party, the new controlling faction guiding the future of the newly formed Greater Mishalan, has also come out stating that it will support the results of the referendum. This has angered some Mishalanski, who threw in their support for the party in the hopes that it would prevent the breaking away of southeast Mishalan. The government’s defense against these accusations is that it must respect the will of the majority, and to do otherwise would be to refute the principles of democracy on which this nation is founded. At the same time however, the government has also announced that it will seek “compensatory measures” to make up for the “economic and industrial losses incurred” by the secession. How or what form of compensation this will be has yet to be announced.

Results:
- Lun Ezkaron ceded to Elwynn Proper
- Mob wars halted
- Clean up now under way
