PAN-MISHALAN MOVEMENT UNITES LEFT WING, ADOPTS SYMBOLISM
Mishalan City (Mishalan) – The Pan-Mishalan movement has managed to secure the unity of a large bloc of left wing parties, forming the coalition “Bear Party” that is sweeping across mainland Amokolia. The party has also adopted a symbol for the movement in the form of a mascot known as Misha, a diminutive form of medved, which in the local dialect means bear. The innocent and friendly looking bear is intended to represent the innocence of the common people that are the majority constituent within the left wing, and the ability of the party to befriend people of any race, creed, or social class. It is also an allusion to the name of Mishalan, which translates roughly to “bear land” in ancient Amokolian, and which anthropologists believe is linked to the Hyperborean-Bjorngarder dialect.
In recent months the Pan-Mishalan movement has united over a dozen parties, convincing several to form an outright merger with the remainder joining a coalition bloc that has seen electoral victories in Oleslaad and Mishalan. The merger of the Oleslaad Communist Party, Mishalan Revolutionary Party, Social Democratic Party of Amokolia, and the Red Resistance Party recently formed the communist platform of the Mishalanski Red Party. The coalition bloc was formed by the MRP, joined by the Liberal Liberation Front, Mishalan National Socialist Party, Citizens Defense Party, and the Benacian Red Front. This has essentially united the left wing parties on the mainland into one massive political force.
Having secured dominance in Oleslaad and Mishalan, the leftist government has distanced itself further from Amokolia Proper, which remains dominated by democratic hawks. In defiance of central authority in Anun, the provincial governments of Oleslaad and Mishalan announced a mainland initiative to allow a referendum in Lun Ezkaron to determine the future of the violence-wracked region. Anun has vowed to overrule the decision and enforce retention of Lun Ezkaron despite continued protests. A government spokesman stated that a “no tolerance” policy would be enforced against secessionists.
Despite the liberal agenda of the Bear Party and their seeming willingness towards allowing Lun Ezkaron to secede peacefully, rioting and protests continue to rock the Elw-dominated region. The refusal by the central government to allow the referendum has set fire to the already volatile situation. Elw battered police and set fire to government buildings, mobs of Elw dragged Amokolians from their homes and have been forcibly pushing them out of Lun Ezkaron into western Mishalan. The Mishalan Corridor around Mishalan City and the river delta has become especially violent as huge armed mobs on both sides have clashed, forcing National Guard units to jump into the fray and break things up, often with much spilt blood.
This has left a tenuous situation in which the question now on everyone’s minds is whether the Bear Party will push for more authority and try to override Anun’s disallowance of the Lun Ezkaron referendum, or whether Lun Ezkaron will take matters into its own hands. With the situation deteriorating daily, the government can no longer ignore the plight of Elw and Amokolian alike. Each day of indecision is alienating the mainland more and more from Anun, and wasting innocent lives more and more in senseless violence.
