Announcement: Duke and Duchess Die at 109

A macabre Gothic kingdom in southern Cibola, ruled by a pair of (mostly) benevolent liches: welcome to Leichenberg, where the dead walk the streets and the trains run on time.

IMPERIAL & ROYAL ANNOUNCEMENT

It is with the deepest regret that we annouce the passing of our beloved son the Duke of Rossheim-Wladischofen, who died yesterday evening, and our beloved daughter the Duchess of Rossheim-Volksburg, who followed her twin brother in the early hours of this morning. They were both 109 years old.

Adding to our feelings of loss is a profound sense of regret, for our children were brought into this world as a physical expression of our commitment to the peoples of our realm. It was our intention that, when they came of age, they would embrace the unliving state, as we had done, and rule the lands south of the mountains as fellow necrarchs...but that was not to be. Instead, they heeded the call of our kinsperson Sadamara and ascended the imperial throne of Sangun in 4973 ASC, where they reigned worthily, if quietly, for the next fifty-four years. Choosing to remain among the living, by 5027 ASC their unpreserved bodies were beginning to feel the ravages of time, leading to their decision to abdicate the imperial throne and retire to the more modest dominions in which they spent their final decades.

What more can we say about our children, lost to the winds of time, like grains of sand in a gale? Only that we, unaccustomed to mortality, mourn their passing but respect the choices that they made in life. Not for them an eternity of sober, steady, public service; like a pair of shooting stars they blazed brilliantly- but all-too briefly- through the starry skies.

Max
Taishi Emperor of Sangun, King of Leichenberg & etc.

We greatly appreciate the messages of condolence from abroad. Whilst it is difficult to remain positive at a time such as this, for the sake of our people we intend to look to the future and in particular, learn what we can from the failure of our previous policy.

The two appanage duchies of Rossheim-Wladischofen and Rossheim-Volksburg will be placed under Leichenbergish administration as a temporary measure pending more permanent arrangements. There is some suggestion of reviving the Grand Duchy of Stiermark and Südmoorland under a new necrarch and to that end, samples have been collected from both of our late children...but it is too soon to be actively contemplating a replacement. The creation and upbringing of our two eldest children was obviously flawed and we must identify what went wrong before we can consider generating any further offspring.

Bugger the rote-learned pieties. May their long over due, and greatly welcomed, deaths mark the beginning of the end for the hellspawned dynasty that shat them into wretched existence.

You empathy-warblers write in such mewing clichés that it would be better for the World, were it possible, that you be torn apart by rabid dogs.

We also thank Mister Royston Merrick of the Dominion for his rather less traditional, but no less fascinating comments. We would like to reassure the said Mister Merrick that our dynasty will be going strong long after the aforementioned rabid dogs have urinated over the untended graves of that unfortunate minority of Micrasians who so clearly have nothing positive left to remain for.

I have been overcome with grief at learning of the
departure from this realm into the next of these two
renown rulers, beloved by their subjects, golden
examples of true nobility and virtue in every way,
choosing to remain among the living longer than
is usually natural, to share in the progress enjoyed
by the land of their nationality.
