Ship Naming Conventions

The following is a briefing regarding the naming convention of all Norse naval vessels. All naval vessels currently in commission follow this convention.

Surface Ship Registry Number Convention
  • FS - Frigates (Fregattskip)
    FSR - Missile Frigates (Fregattskip-Rakett)
    KS - Destroyers (Kampskip)
    KSR - Destroyers (Kampskip-Rakett)
    JS - Cruisers (Jagerskip)
    JSR - Missile Cruisers (Jegerskip-Rakett)
    TJS - Battlecruiser (Tungt Jegerskip)
    SS - Battleship (Slagskip)
FKS - Fleet Command Ship (Flåteskommando Skip)
U-Boat Registry Number Convention
  • U - Attack U-Boat (Undersjøiske Båt)
    UR - Missile U-Boat (Undersjøiske Båt-Rakett)
    UF - Research U-Boat (Undersjøiske Båt-Forskning)
  • Frigates - Cities and towns of The Union.
    Destroyers - Norse gods
Cruisers - Runes in Elder Futhark
Battlecruisers - Mountain peaks in The Union
Battleships - Kings and Grand Kings of The Grand Kingdom of Normark
Fleet Command Ships - named in accordance with The Grand Marshal's wishes
Each two- or three-letter designation is followed by a three-digit identification digit in sequential order with the lowest number being the oldest and the higher numbers being newer. That is, KSR-003 is older than KSR-008, while KSR-008 is older than KSR-010. There are also naming conventions for what a ship can be named after as well. The name is always preceded by the acronym NKS, meaning 'Norske Krigsmarine Skip'. As such, one might call a destroyer the NKS Freyr or a frigate the NKS Eikbu. U-Boats, however, follow a slightly different convention and are strictly referred to by their registry number.
