Kyrios Primo de Aguilar goes to Shirekeep (open to anyone)

The often renovated, and not infrequently burnt, Prefectoral complex in the capital city of Shirekeep. Charged with the thankless task of civic administration in the most malodorous and ungovernable city ever conceived.

Kyrios Primo de Aguilar goes to Shirekeep (open to anyone)

Post by Primo de Aguilar »

It had been quite a journey.

He'd first considered taking the Ryker Airship service from Vey, which was guaranteed by Treaty (Article VII, to be exact), but despite discussions with the local ESB office, that notion was soon extinguished, as it was like "waiting for Gadot", as the expression went. One more thing to add to his list, a reasonable airline for the fledging nation. Shire Air was another possibility, but that required too much time to confirm tickets.

It had been a rather roundabout process, which was why he was rather cranky, thanks to the jetlag.

He'd borrowed the Basileus' personal ride, the sole Constancian Air Force jet wonderfully bequeathed by the Imperial Republic, Vey to Haraldsborg, where he flew commercial (he was afraid of getting shot down over Jingdao) via Loftleiðir to Svorgas International Airport, just in time for a connecting flight to Osĵätoņ via CräiteAir, where liberal expenditure of Natopos found him a fairly-safe Cräitish charter straight to Shirekeep, with the inflight meals whatever he could purchase at the Osĵätoņ airport shop, essentially Cräitish goodies which were an interesting change of pace.

All he had with him was a rather brave and unarmed officer from the Basileusan Private Guard, somewhat skilled in martial arts, to carry the bags and such. Their Constancian diplomatic passports helped ease matters along the way, but he figured it was time to open relations with Senya and other nations, at any rate. The Free and Associative Kingdom needed their trade, their markets, and more importantly, their money.

Which was why he was here, too.

On arrival at Shirekeep airport, after presenting his and his aide's diplomatic credentials, he did the usual touristy thing of acquainting himself with the nearest airport privy, before finding a semblance of lunch with familiar foods, not waiting for an official welcoming delegation, if there was one. Not that it mattered - he was dressed in a suit, in keeping with Alexandrian fashion, with his aide looking out of place in his unfamiliar service uniform. Thereafter, doing the usual touristy thing of getting around Shirekeep and hence to the Office of Bounties and Factorage, where he tended to a little business.

(Do you mind if this scenario involves Primo encountering some of Shirekeep's less savoury denizens?)

(Not at all!)

Business with the Chamber of Guilds and Factorage completed, Jaime Augustin Joaquin Primo de Aguilar, accompanied by his Basileusan Private Guard, found themselves examining the Statue of Finanzia, as well as the nearby Araxion Park and the exteriors of the nearby baths. They also found themselves likewise admiring The Bread Museum, and the newly-built apartments and condominiums between Almodovar Children's Hospital and Raynertoo Park.

A doorbell ring, a short discussion at a nearby cafe, the revelation of his diplomatic passport and the transfer of a scandalous amount of Imperial Erb (late from the coffers of the Basileusan Bank of Vey, Constancia), as well as the delivery of a personal letter of credence with his sign and seal, resulted in the first acquisition of Oranjesion Private Equity Capital (a joint stock company incorporated under the laws of the Imperial Republic of Shireroth): a five-story condominium unit with elevator and basement, certified and authenticated by the nearby member of the Mango Bar in good standing.

That accomplished, he bid his guest farewell, with the assurances of warm welcome on arrival and stay at the Free and Associative Kingdom, at which time, in the same cafe, Oranjesion Private Equity Capital convened its first board meeting, and Jaime Augustin Joaquin Primo de Aguilar was unanimously elected to the post of Chairman of the Board of Directors.

While waiting for the show to start, considering that he was in Shirekeep anyway, the Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Oranjesion Private Equity Capital, a corporation duly registered in accordance with the laws of the Imperial Republic of Shireroth, summoned Basileusan Private Guards from his own private detail, had them sworn to secrecy on pain of death by slow dismemberment and subsequent attainder and corruption of their blood ascendants and descendants. One to serve as witness, while the other was verbally appointed as interim company secretary, subsequently made official.

At that meeting where these three individuals were present, the following took place:

- It was resolved by the Board of Directors of Oranjesion Private Equity Capital that the interim appointment of Guardsman [redacted by order of the Board of Directors] of the Basileusan Private Guard as company secretary be confirmed by the Board of Directors.

- It was resolved by the Board of Directors of Oranjesion Private Equity Capital that the primary asset of the company, a five-story condominium unit with elevator and basement, located between Almodovar Children's Hospital and Raynertoo Park in Shirekeep, be authorized to be utilized by the Royal Constancian Government as an interim embassy, and by the Thema Oranjesion as a cultural and economic office.

- It was resolved by the Board of Directors of Oranjesion Private Equity Capital that the penthouse floor be reserved as private quarters for visiting Constancian dignitaries, in the absence of which it could serve as a private office; resolved further that the third floor be reserved as living quarters for resident workers, resolved further that the second floor serve as the embassy Chancery, and the first floor as an exhibition center and Constancia tourism promotion center.

- It was resolved by the Board of Directors of Oranjesion Private Equity Capital that sufficient funds of the company be exchanged to Teldrin Thalers, and used to fully pay the subscription to 100 million shares of Atacama Corporation.

- It was resolved by the Board of Directors of Oranjesion Private Equity Capital that sufficient funds of the company be exchanged to Liev, and used to fully pay the subscription to 1 share of Banca Credito Commercio Immobiliare.

- It was resolved by the Board of Directors of Oranjesion Private Equity Capital that shares of the company be offered to worthy individuals and organizations, at the discretion of the Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Directors.

- It was resolved by the Board of Directors of Oranjesion Private Equity Capital that the Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Directors is authorized to contract loans in the name and credit of, and on behalf of the company.

- It was resolved by the Board of Directors of Oranjesion Private Equity Capital that the next meeting of the Board of Directors be at the call of the Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Directors.

At that, the meeting was concluded.

That meeting concluded, another meeting took place in the same room, where those already present stood up from the table, and the door opened to reveal none other than Sarah Dravot.

She was asked to take a seat, while the two principals were served refreshments. The table was cleared and two leather folders, resplendent with the insignia of the Free and Associative Kingdom were presented. A fountain pen was provided for each.

The Autokrat took a cursory look at the document - he'd read and reread the same thing on the flight over - and, confident that the provisions were the same, he added his scribble to the bottom, exchanging his copy of the document with hers, while the others did the same, asserting that they had witnessed these proceedings.

Then, the Autokrat saluted Sarah Dravot's health with a certified chilled champagne, a portion from the same bottle that a brave Basileusan Private Guard had already sampled. He was still alive and well, so the champagne-toasting continued.

With a smile she lent forward and clinked glasses with the Autokrator.

"You'll be amused to learn, no doubt", she said in a languid tone, "that, according to some indiscreet remarks from a loose-lipped Sentinel I hosted to dinner last night, the PC meeting has been held up due to a slight difference of opinion between the Imperial Mother, the Regent and the Steward. It seems they cannot quite agree on the protocol as to who should bow to whom. It seems that some form of reconciliation ceremony has been organised where they will meet - on horseback - in the middle of a field outside the city, witnessed by their regiments, and shake hands before making a triumphal entry into the city. After prayers, blessings, the exchange of vows and hostages." She paused momentarily to roll her eyes at the very notion.

"Once that fuss and nonsense is out of the way, they will make a procession from the Gate of Noor to the Great Hall at Raynor's Keep. The Regent will lead the way, riding a white charger, whilst the Imperial Mother and the Steward will ride side by side, neither ahead of the other. After which we might finally be able to get on with something. The Steward is said to keep trying to invite himself to the meeting and is furious that the Regent is representing the Imperial Republic. I should warn you however, the Regent's face is somewhat... unusual... some kind of medical procedure went awry. He prefers to wear a mask so it is best not to comment on it. Or to stare. It was all much simpler when Dominus was alive."

And with that she held out her empty champagne flute towards whoever it was that was doing the refilling.

The laugh he gave at her report would no doubt be heard outside the room, and likely written up in some contact report by some factotum, to be read by a more senior factotum, and then filed in some tower of bureaucratic despair.

He himself was a stickler for protocol in some respects - an old ingrained Alexandrian habit, further reinforced by the Basileusa Cleo and her Court Rules -but this conundrum was nearing the Jingdaoese level of absurd!

The Autokrator - unusually in good humor, aided no doubt by the liberal utilization of alcohol - rather theatrically, looked left, and then looked right, before leaning forward and giving a whisper of his own.

"I miss Kaiser Dominus. He was a very good friend to the Kingdom and its people. Also fairly approachable for an anointed sovereign. I wish I could have spent more time with him, get to know the fellow."

He noted the observation regarding the Regent, already training himself not to react, even if his sense obliged him to do the same.

Then again, he'd had a lot of practice at that, either in Alexandria or over there in Vey.
