Flectere si nequeo superos Acheronta movebo

The often renovated, and not infrequently burnt, Prefectoral complex in the capital city of Shirekeep. Charged with the thankless task of civic administration in the most malodorous and ungovernable city ever conceived.

Moderators: (Shireroth) Prefect of Shirekeep, (Shireroth) Steward, (Shireroth) Kaiser

Flectere si nequeo superos Acheronta movebo

Kaiser Dominus Bridge, a pride in architectural achievement. It was built in the style of two fortified towers, raising and lowering the main bridge span to allow larger vessels to pass underneath, either down towards the Confluence and up towards Eliria. At the moment, the bridge was down, free to allow traffic to move as it pleased.

Charges detonated at the base of the Shirekeep side of the bridge, causing the western drawbridge to tumble into the river below. Members of the Scholae Triarii cheered from the far western side of the bridge. Once they withdrew back behind the line of the Shirekeep City Wall, a further set of charges were detonated in the connecting super structure that bound the two pseudo-fortified towers together. Immediately, they tore apart from eachother as the tension force of the suspension wires connecting each tower to its side pulled horizontally. As the smoke cleared, much of the bridge was gone.

A random assortment of gunfire could be heard as they pulled back towards the Ministry of the Interior. Two squadrons of 1st TRIARII were holding the flank, which was precarious due to the presence of armed civilians at the Chamber of Guilds and Factorage. Their orders were to make the bridge unusable with the least number of complications. Don't stop for anything, just blow it up.
A Sqd EXTRAORD moved forward to the next intersection of Lucre Lane. The Iron Company had just declared that it favored the coup attempt, which meant that their facilities in Shirekeep had now become hostile territory. Moreover, they were "deploying" 22,000 soldiers of the Iron Militia. For all anyone knew, some may already have been shipped in under the cover of preparing for Kaiser Dominus's triumphal return. In a way, they would have been.

From the current intersection, A Squadron could see some of the buildings that made up Iron Company jutting out among the smaller residential buildings that surrounded it. No sign of anything yet.

Code: Select all

BELFONT & LUCRE secure.
The coded message was received and the 4th Regiment of the Extraordinarii moved, battalion by battalion, further northward. B Sqd EXTRAORD took point at the next intersection. One street to the east, the 5th Regiment of the Extraordinarii were similarly working their way northwards. At their next intersection, however, they were to encounter another bridge that spanned the White Elwynn. Orders from the MiniInt were clear: all bridges to be primed for destruction. If they cannot be occupied, blow them up.

As B Squadron reached the next intersection and prepared to signal for more advancement, they could hear the sound of gunfire to their east. 5th EXTRAORD had encountered someone. The order was given, and a set of detonations signaled that the bridge had been made at least partially unusable. It wasn't clear from their vantage point who was on the bridge when it happened. A few soldiers with Iron Militia uniforms ran into B Squadron and were taken out. From B Squadron's western flank, there was movement. They took secure positions, then signalled for the remainder of 4th EXTRAORD to start making their way north quickly. B Squadron will cover them.
"C, D, E -- cross Araxion Park doublequick. Stop only for remarkable resistance. A and B will cover."

Those five squadrons of 1st TRIARII were making their way towards their second objective. F, G, H, I, and K Squadrons continued to harrass the armed civilians in the Chamber of Guilds and Factorage from the north and east. A, B, C, D, and E were making a break for their last target, the Raynertoo Bridge. Their mission: secure, prepare to destroy.

At the edge of Raynertoo Park, the Triarii encountered elements of the Kampioens, who were attempting to organize themselves outside of Raynor's Keep in the hope that they would be able to storm one of the outer fortified structures. The two groups quickly wished eachother luck as they continued on their way.

Summary:

Kaiser Dominus Bridge partially destroyed. Unnamed Bridge located immediately north of that also taken out. Southern-most bridge over White Elwynn to be secured or destroyed.

4th and 5th Regiments of Extraordinarii are heading towards the Landsraad area to make sure that the dockyards can be secured. If able, they are to send a detachment north to secure or destroy the last bridge crossing over the White Elwynn, near the City Walls.

Elements of the 4th Regiment are northeast of the Iron Company's position, halfway between there and the downed bridge. They are watching to make sure that the 4th Regiment isn't outflanked during its movement northward.

The remainder of the Principes, Triarii, and Extraordinarii are staking out positions around the Ministry of the Interior, mostly guarding against assaults from the south and west and exploring north and northwest for hostile elements.

Mira sighed as she read the notice that was broadcast from the MoMA. The building itself was not particularly far from where she now stood. Neither was the MiniInfo Building -- which was likely much easier to get to.

"Secure the MiniInfo Building and make preparations for a broadcast. Then evacuate the building of all non-essential personnel."
Another cluster of civil servants were led out of the MiniInfo Building into a commandeered city bus, while members of the Triarii stood guard outside.

"Bus is full. Don't stop until you leave Shirekeep!"

The bus awkwardly swung around in an arc and sped eastwards to the next intersection, where it turned left and accelerated away northwards.

Mira stepped into the street and crossed it into the building. While the Ministry of Information no longer existed -- having been absorbed into the Ministry of the Interior -- the Information Bureau was still as large as ever and maintained itself in the existing facilities. Mira had only visited the place a few times during her time as MiniInt.

"Recording studio is ready for you, Ma'am." One of the Triarii officers reported. He led her to it by the most direct way possible.

Cameras rolling. Audio checked. Transmission tower still in operation. Emergency broadcast takeover of radio and television broadcasts initiated.
Elements of the Triarii, under temporary command of the Ministry of the Interior, take control of Information facilities in order to broadcast a message.

15 Nomeziooqu – After the Storm

The 14th had passed under the shadow of an unnatural calm. It was as if both sides, shocked by the ferocity of the first encounter, had recoiled to their dens to lick their wounds.

The Landsraad, the Palace of the Prefect, the Ministry of the Interior and the broadcasting apparatus of the Office of Information remained under the control of the 'Loyalists'. There was some talk of an evacuation being mounted from the ESB and SEKEF docks by the Elwynnese, yet those same docks were under the guns of the Jaysh al-Sathrati Panzergrenadier Brigade, whose vehicles had pushed into the Cabbagefall Terminal during the night of the coup – making any attempt by the Riverine Forces of the Union Defence Force to force a passage from Eliria into Shirekeep a risky venture. The Jaysh, using assets liberated from the Goldshire Regulars, had also moved howitzers and Buk launchers into positions opposite Raynor's Keep, providing thereby the means to deliver suppressing fire upon Raynortoo Park if the fighting resumed. While the Prefect, the Praetor and the Steward had all made good their escape, the City Guard and the Crypteia had bagged a goodly haul of wounded and fearful electors, who had been herded down to the Cedrist Worship Hall of the Outer Keep. There subtle pressure was being exerted on them to acclaim the new Kaiser and to elect an interim Praetor, seeing as the official officeholder had reputedly fled to her holiday home in Elwynn.

The Ministry of the Exterior, the Ministry of Military Affairs, and its adjacent flak-towers, bunkers and depots, connected by a ratline network of tunnels, had remained in the hands of the conspirators. The four legions of the Palatini Corps, the Order of Kampioens, upon finding that they had been locked out of their own bases by S.W.O.R.D. and the Logistics Troops of the Shirerithian Supplies Service, had been given pause in their ferocious attack on Raynor's Keep and had retired a small distance to the north in some disorder. The Landsraad Guard (Scholae Equites Singulares) had sent a force of approximately five-hundred guardsmen to scour Raynortoo Park for any survivors of the initial carnage. These had subsequently been caught up in the exchange of fire between the City Guards' Special Assignments Squad in the Iron Gate Tower and a force of Kampioens from the Legion of Octavius.

The most active resistance in the city had come from the Scholae legions which had been transferred into the Imperial Constabulary by Kaiser Dominus to remove them from the control of the coup plotters, whom he half-suspected but couldn't quite bring himself to believe that they would dare. Ironically, taking their orders now from the Minister of the Interior, the Scholae Triarii had blown the newly inaugurated Kaiser Dominus Bridge, leaving the Goldshire Tower in the hands of the Jaysh and the Shirekeep Tower as a vital anchor point in the Loyalist front. This complicated matters. Without the bridges, the conspirators, hemmed into their enclave were isolated and vulnerable. Yet, succour came in the form of the presence of the Jaysh on the Goldshire side of the River Elwynn, and also from the declaration of the Imperial Army, the Western Armada and the Imperial Shirerithian Air Forces of their loyalty to the new regime. There would soon be landing craft, helicopters and gravtanks available. In the meantime, there were other bridges.

Al-Osman had declared, during that unnatural calm, that the Kaiser had fallen, under circumstances that remained studiously unexplained, leaving to him the Golden Mango Throne. What the new Kaiser, who announced himself as the second to bear the name of Aurangzeb, proclaimed to the world was a policy of genocide and conquest that perplexed and horrified in equal measure. It did not help soothe the strained nerves of the neighbouring empires that Shireroth had, during the reign of the preceding three Kaisers, built up the largest modern field army in the history of Micras.
His Imperial Magnificence Aurangzeb II Steffki, Kaiser of the Imperial Republic of Shireroth, Thane of the Shirelands, Keeper of the Apollo Legacy, Wielder of the Sword of Vengeance, Grand Master of the Orders of the Dragon, Griffin, Phoenix, and Chimera, Sovereign of the Golden Mango Throne.
