We had a better record than 7 other teams who do qualify. This is why it's hard to get into it.

Yeah, I've just being trying to work out how Natopia suddenly failed to qualify. :?
I think I can see how but I can't say I'm happy.
Congratulations in any case to Alexandria. :salute:

Qualification is split into regional confederations, and then into groups, where every team in each group plays one another twice (home and away), with the group winners being awarded qualification to the final tournament. The groups are drawn based on predetermined rankings which relate to previous results from the past year; this means that the chance of having one group filled with all the highest- or lowest-ranking teams is eradicated, and each group has a similar make-up of teams' qualities.

While Natopia were top of the group after the first few matches, results haven't gone their way in more recent games, and so Alexandria have overtaken them. Natopia were never in a position which guaranteed them qualification (only that they occupied the top spot while there were still games to play), and with them having now fulfilled all of their fixtures, they are also unable to finish as the best runners-up in the CTFA (a position which sees that team face-off against the team in the same position from the AEFA confederation).

In response to Naian, as it stands, only one team that has guaranteed qualification has currently got a worse record than Natopia (Talenore in EMUFA Group D), and they still have one match remaining. Unless a team is highlighted green, their qualification status is not secured (those coloured red are mathematically unable to qualify at all, and those without any highlighting have no defined outcome as that could change with results. Teams can be highlighted despite having fixtures remaining due to mathematical certainty that they will not be overtaken by another. The green and blue lines purely show which positions currently occupy which means of qualification/advancement, with no guarantee of those standings being final once all matches have been played.

I appreciate your concerns, especially with the erroneous news that was passed-on that both Natopia and Athlon had sealed qualification misleading your understanding of the situation, but I hope that I have explained things better for you to get to grips with how our tournaments run :)

I think one issue is that most other groups (outside the Western Micras qualifying) had 5 teams in each, whereas the Western Micran ones only had 4. This gave more second teams the chance to advance.

Ah... mathematics!

Following the qualifiers was fun though :)

Yeah, individual group sizes are based on membership size of their respective confederation and how many finals places each confederation is awarded (another factor based on relative rankings strength). In the case of WMFA, twelve teams entered qualifying (Craitland, as hosts of the tournament, qualified automatically), and the region was given three places to fill, so the best approach was three groups of four teams.

With AEFA and CTFA being rather equally-matched (having the exact same number of members), they were both given 4.5 places to fill, with the 0.5 meaning a play-off between the fifth-best team in both confederation - in other words, the second-placed team with the best record, as the four group winners qualify directly.

EMUFA, on the other hand, as the largest and strongest confederation, had six spots to fill, so its four group winners qualify directly, with each group runner-up advancing to a play-off solely against another EMUFA team. Compare the FMF situation to the qualifiers for last year's FIFA World Cup, where our AEFA-CTFA play-off is essentially a copy of FIFA's AFC-CONMEBOL play-off, whereas EMUFA's internal play-offs are akin to UEFA's ones :)

And the freefall continues, although at least a goal was scored this time, albeit literally at the last minute.
