Cosiman language family

Post by Malliki »

The term Cosiman language family has been largely accepted by the Sanillan linguistic community. It comprises at least three distinct, related languages mainly spoken in the Free State of Sanilla, but also by a Sanillan diaspora found mainly in Shireroth and Babkha. The languages of the family are very diverse, which is generally regarded as evidence of a very early split between the two main branches, even before settling on the Benacian continent. The two main branches are Amarri and Sanillo-Azarean, which share a very low level of mutual intelligibility. This is largely due to this very early split from Proto-Cosiman, but it is also due to different sources of loanwords. While the main language of the Sanillo-Azarean branch, Sanillan, has mainly borrowed words from Praeta Sxirothes, Babkhan and English, the main language of the Amarri branch, Amarri, has largely borrowed from Cisamarrese. Sanillan also comprises far fewer loanwords than Amarri. Azarean on the other hand exhibits far fewer loans due to its insular development.

The family tree can thus be expressed as follows:

The Passikaans language has also been linked to the Cosiman languages, but this link is still considered to be highly controversial.
