An emirate is a political territory ruled by a dynastic monarch, often but not always in our case Islamic, styled emir.

Duchy seems to have gone out of favor, unfortunately. Maybe you can help me and Hālian in that matter.

OK.

What does it take to become a Duchy?

Or should we just skip that and take over Shireroth, as once we did in times of yore?

Good will in the Landsraad. Failing that it has been a while since the Y.A.C. was on the receiving end of a good cudgelling.

People keep changing their accounts so their titles won't stick :(

Otherwise I wouldn't be surprised if most of the forum had a title, actually.

It's the Stors' fault as far as the shift from Duchies goes. We were all Dukedoms and Duchies, then Harald said he was king. The rest of the states, not ones to be shown up by some half-nude northerners, Declared their own territories to be kingdoms a bit later. That's how I remember it at least.

I could be wrong, but I think it was Lady Anthrax down in Lichbrook who started the title inflation bandwagon when she upgraded herself to the rank of Queenie after some tiff with a Kaiser or another.

Elwynn's leader became a prince but that was unique for a while. Then Lichbrook got upgraded to a Kingdom. Then Kildare declared itself the Eastern Empire. Then Harald declared himself King. Then Goldshire acquired royal status.

Duchies are easier. Except Elwynn but that's because they're intentionally going for something different than endless feudalism

Historically, the Duke of Yardistan was also the Anarch, but this was never a de jure sort of arrangement, and the titles did not percolate up to the Landsraad. I always liked the idea that the two positions could be occupied by different people. Wasted a great opportunity for infighting.
