The Mel'anje

Post by Andreas the Wise »

The Mel'anje people, a race full of wisdom in words and history, discerning in their writing, and careful in their records, were descended from the first follower of Sakat, Squid god of Time, god of Historians, and patron god of Melangia. They also have a great respect for Seers, and put great faith in divination of cloud patterns. They are also notable for their naming conventions, which bears an entirely coincidental resemblance to Micron naming conventions because of the use of ' after the third letter of the name.

Physically, they resemble humans, but their eyes are narrower, their body shorter, their toes and fingers have the slightest webbing, making them able to swim better underwater. Their lungs are expanded, and their swimming ability is far greater than any human.

Yes. They're basically human, just more at home in water, and obsessed with history.

I'm going to update this and comment on the ancestry/appearance of the Laing family.

#1 I, Thadeus Laing, am the son of Thadeus Laing, a Melangian. My mother, Ethel, is also Melangian. However in addition to the indigenous or ancient Melangian ancestry, they have significant Shirerithian ancestry, having descended from both the earliest and more recent Shirerithians to arrive in Melangia. This may include possibly some branches of Shirerithian royalty, although not conclusively proven due to lack of specific evidence; this would explain why the Laing family is not included amongst the various genealogies of Shirerithian royal families.

Many of the other Laing family members such as Wil and Roberto (now deceased as of this writing) have, in addition to Melangian and Shirerithian ancestry, Raynor Isles ancestry and possibly also Apollonian ancestry. Some other cousins have married inhabitants of Ergonia, Willowshire, and Craitland, places wherein the Laing family has owned numerous foreign estates. Because of this, it is difficult to call the Laing family Melangian anymore. Much of this is due to the hostility of the Apollonian regimes led by Jonas and Rasmus towards members of the Laing family.

Accordingly, the Laing family now resides in New Vaduz, a neutral "global city-state", and economic free zone supported by Craitland. Member Wil Laing has even been elected the Lord Mayor of New Vadyz, with the approval of its Royal Family of course, a prestigious achievement which will cement the Laing family into the legacy and history of New Vadyz.

Physically most members of the Laing family, unlike the Melangians described by Andreas the Wise, resemble the average Benacian or eastern Apollonian.

I'd also like to do a complete genealogy. using some family tree software, some time, like some others have done.

...the members of the Myksos dynasty of Apollonia who use the usernames
Jonas and Rasmus. Apparently they also took over Batavia some time after
the abdication (or removal?) of Prince Joachim.

By the way, Your Excellency Joseph Myksos,

I notice that in your signature you are listed as both Joseph Myksos
Prince of Batavia and as Willem V Myksos King of Batavia. Which is
it? Also does the return of these forums to Bastion mean that the
Garden is moving back?

The death of our beloved Sheng Emperor has given us a successor who solely focuses on spiritual matters. For that reason, the elite has been granted political authority, while the Heavenly Light has left to overseas. An Union of Apollonian Provinces has been proclaimed and is planning to introduce a democratic system (based on the old Batavian parliamentary democracy).
