I second that!
And I am also interested in a one-person country...how can I help to get this implemented?

Re: I am sitting on a resource I don't know how to use
That's a good point actually...maybe we can play upon the idea of Eura as a "green field site" for new nations. I still think we need to be quite clear about the message though- we can't just assume people will "get" the name and understand the purpose of the place.Sisera B.E. wrote:Just a side-note, "green" is also used as a metaphore for new things outside micronations so it might be more suitable than you think.

Seriously guys...I know it's important to get things like the name right, but equally we can't take too long. We've got interest in this project right now, so we need to capitalise on that early momentum before it runs out and we hit the summer.

This isn't going to happen until one person declares themselves Autokrator and runs with it. I'm not going to do it because I already ran one Archipelago without too much success. I kind of nominate Ari but at this point would be happy with almost anyone.

SO!
How 'bout a new top-level forum like
Does that seem like a plausible plan? I know of a few places I could ask for people to join in, the more noobs starting around the same time, the merrier! (though of course the ideal is a mix of noobs and regulars)
How 'bout a new top-level forum like
... without any subforums, and a welcome thread explaining how things work - basically: go ahead and create thread prefixed by your nation's name, if it's active enough you can ask for a dedicated subforum (especially if you do nice things like draw maps, write funny reports, play nice with your neighbours, etc.), and if that is active enough it can eventually be put on the world map. Also, a basic description of recwars, consent issues (don't start bringing peoples in your wars and drama without asking 'em). The Green
Budding nations, barbarians and forgotten ruins - make your place among the unclaimed lands of Apollonia! One-man nations, worldbuilding experiments and weirdtopias are welcome here.

Maybe Emile could be our Autokrator? Or are we set on a high intervention, "we don't know best but we're experienced so listen up" approach?

That seems like a plan worth trying, Emile.

Re: I am sitting on a resource I don't know how to use
I'm really glad to see Emile taking the lead on this, as it's vital to get new people involved at the highest levels if this has any chance of success and I think he has some good ideas. However, I do have a couple of concerns.
Firstly, the whole point of this exercise is to create a support structure for newcomers, because let's face it, joining our world- let alone starting up your own nation in it- can be a daunted, confusing business. Unfortunately, I don't think we're providing that support; all we've done is provide a single forum and we're expecting that to be enough. Instead of a micronational creche, I fear we will end up with a ghetto, a down-at-heel section of Bastion with minimal contact with established states and members. For this to work, there has to be interaction between the old and the new...an exchange of ideas and above all, inspiration. Just giving the "newbs" a pool and letting them sink or swim isn't very helpful.
Secondly, we haven't solved the issue of getting newcomers "on the map"...indeed, we seem to have dodged the issue entirely. We've already remarked upon the truth that it's difficult to develop a semi-coherent state outside of a defined spatial context, yet that is what we're asking them to do: start posting on the forum and maybe, if you're active enough, you'll be able to get on to the official map. Other than the fact that you might have "neighbours" who are in a similar position, this doesn't seem like a great improvement on the pre-existing situation with the three-month waiting period.
For The Green to work- and I really hope that it will work- two things need to happen. We need to channel existing expertise into the project and we need to co-ordinate with the MCS to get a defined area of land set aside for it. Otherwise, it will be difficult to take things forward. Just in case anyone is unclear, none of this should be read as a criticism of Emile, who I think is doing a sterling job. I merely want to ensure that he gets the support he needs from the rest of us to make this work!

Re: I am sitting on a resource I don't know how to use
The Green could be set up in a way a political simulation website is set up, like Nation States, except that the Green is technically considered one nation. It could be federated, with each member state sending a representative to the national council, that would take care of diplomatic relations as well. Of course each member would develop their own cultural identity.
Emile, I'd like to help with this project, as I am also somewhat new to the hobby, and definitely a newer member of Bastion.

Re: I am sitting on a resource I don't know how to use
Mira: those are very reasonable concerns!
About the fact that there's only one forum: sure, but wouldn't that make it more active than if it was split in subforums? I tend to think that having many empty subforums makes a place feel dead, and makes it easy for the small active subsections to ignore the rest. So I'd rather create subforums only if they seem they will be used, like "discussion is too crowded here, could you put all talk about X in a dedicated subforum?". I agree that having a mix of noobs and Ancients is nice, but that seems to be happening.
About the map: yeah, that could be a complication, and coordinating with MCS to have a chunk of land somewhat set aside for this kind of thing would be a decent solution(see some discussion at MCS about preclaims and one-person micronations). An alternative is to just run a map of that region published/maintained independently of the MCS, as happened for Archipelago. That's probably needed anyway tho.
Hugo: hmm, I'm not a huge fan of the federated + federal council thing, those are more interested if they emerge organically. That kind of stuffs adds a lot of overhead, a lot of extra explanations and discussions for people who just want to dick around with their nation. But maybe I'm an outlier in terms of how much structure I need to feel comfortable.
And thanks for the offer of help, the best way to help right now would be to dive in and make that subforum active

Re: I am sitting on a resource I don't know how to use
Also, another thing about the-green-as-federation: isn't that pretty much what the Dominion is? When I joined this forum I looked for something like The Green, where I could dick around and not care too much about politics, and the Dominion seemed closest but I didn't care about the whole "union to promote prosperity, cooperation and mutual protection" thing. I care about my own goals, thank you very much.

Close, but the nations in the Dominion were all already extant when they joined.

Re: I am sitting on a resource I don't know how to use
I think when Mira said " all we've done is provide a single forum" she did not mean that we need more forums, but that the old folks need to give more support... like...well, I don't know...advice, resources, participation...stuff.
I think, in terms of the map, perhaps if the project claim a load of Eura (or Appolonia, or whatever), and on the MCS map it just shows as all being claimed, but a map be maintained here with the claims of the Grean members. I could contribute that, if it is wanted.

Re: I am sitting on a resource I don't know how to use
I agree with conglacio on this. The best would be to post a claim for the green and depict the nation simply as 'The Green' on the claimsmap. The land could be divided between the greenies afterwards.
