New country
Re: New country
Ah, so this is why our hobby is dying out...

2.Eki Aholibamah Verion, Queen in the North
3. Ludovic Verion, Lord of Blackstone and Governor-General of the Iron Company

Re: New country
The hobby isn't dying out. People have been creating, writing or telling stories about fictional countries for centuries- probably nearly as long as there have been countries- and if other sites I've seen are anything to go by, that isn't likely to change anytiem soon. This sector, on the other hand, is arguably dying out because some people here insist on doing their best to ensure that it does.

Re: New country
There have been stories about the 'sector" dying since 2000.
Re: New country
I spoke of the sector, perhaps I should have clarified.

..........and the "sector" has been dying since 2000. Doesn't mean we shouldn't stir things up a bit.........

We should invade other sectors to get more room to live.Mira Raynora Minor wrote:The hobby isn't dying out. Re: New country
We have lots of green space on the Micras map.
But this has the gleam of opportunity. Why not engage more with other "sectors"?
....or make more planets........

Could you give some examples of these sectors?
1.Titus Morvayne, Prefect of Shirekeep, Count of the Skyla Islands
2.Eki Aholibamah Verion, Queen in the North
3. Ludovic Verion, Lord of Blackstone and Governor-General of the Iron Company

Re: New country
Each sector is as pure, pristine and perfect as a delicate snowflake or exotic butterfly and must under no circumstances be tainted by exposure to or association with the inferior and childish 'other'. The hobby is and remains serious business.
Of the top of my head there remains the Microwiki and Seccessionists crowd and then the various foreign language sectors of which the Krauts and the Polaks seem to be the most noteworthy.
There are probably more geo-fiction and sci-fi fantasy world building projects out there than you can shake a stick at but it would remain to be seen how something as chaotically incoherent as Micras is would fit in co-existence with them.

Re: New country
Well, you are refering to 'real' micronationalists who claim real land and all. But I meant similar to what we do: interactive geofiction.

Some of us tried to fight that trend, but it's difficult. It feels like a few against the world, and the world has an irritating tendency to win that sort of attrition game.

I'm afraid that I haven't heard from anyone at all period lately. And Bill and I barely said a word since the big great BGI breakup several years back.Jacobus Loki wrote:Harvey, have you heard from Bill lately?

Re: New country
I heard from Bill recently on Facebook. He's now a physics grad student somewhere in the Northeast (I think Pennsylvania? Don't remember) and has a good social life. I tried to drag him back, but he said he was too smart to fall for that.

Re: New country
I don't think so. I met Steven (actually, I worked with Steven) last year. There's no way he's coming back.

Which is why no one will ever know if the sector is dying, or when the sector is dead. One day it just won't exist and there'll be no one there to cry about it. Of course there is one option... http://www.reddit.com/r/micronations
