Holidays [recommendations to Steward]
In Elwynn, there are a number of public holidays throught the year. Some are secular and others are religious. Currently there are 46 of them. It may sound a lot, but since Elwynnese people generally only have one day off every week (an Elwynnese week is 6 days), holidays give extra days off. Generally, most Elwynnese work part-time or take vacations during the two Roqpin months. Exceptions to this are Amokolians and Babkhi. Should you work on a public holiday, you get double pay. As such many non-Babkhis work a few of the Zurvanist holidays since their meaning is almost lost, even to the faithful. During Roqpin, it is standard to pay 50% extra in salary.
A breakdown of them are as follows:
1 Silnuai: New year's day [secular]
7 Silnaui: Abanagan [Zurvanism]
12 Silnuai: Day of the Dead [Cedrism]
4-6 Kuspor: King of H'graasreign [Cedrism]
12 Kuspor: Adargan [Zurvanism]
14 Gevraquun: Vivantia of Vivantia, Cedrist new year [Cedrism]
22-23 Gevraquun: Amokolian night [secular, ethnic, regional]
7 Gevrader: Christmas Eve (Orthodox Church of Amokolia and Elwynn) [religious]
8 Gevrader: Christmas (Orthodox Church of Amokolia and Elwynn) [religious]
9 Gevrader: Restoration day [Dozan Bovic Church] , Saint Stephen's day [Orth. Ch. of Am. and Elw.]
15 Gevrader: Oustfest [Cedrist Church of Elwynn]
17 Gevrader: Jashan-e Bahman [Zurvanism]
2 Fasmas: Memorial Day [Dozan Bovic Church], Jashan-e Spendarmad [Zurvanism]
9 Nomeziooqu: Day of the Spring [secular] (Nowrûz [Babkhi, Zurvanism], Kethethamisisen [Hyperborean])
13 Nomeziooqu: Day of Communion (Easter Thursday) [Orth. Ch. of Am. and Elw.]
14 Nomeziooqu: Day of Passion (Easter Friday) [Orth. Ch. of Am. and Elw.]
16 Nomeziooqu: Day of Resurrection (Easter) [Orth. Ch. of Am. and Elw.]
23 Nomeziooqu: Amokolia Day [secular]
3 Laemill: Farwardigan [Zurvanism]
13 Laemill: Feast day of Laguna [Cedrism]
17 Laemill: Jashan-e Ardavisht [Zurvanism]
19 Laemill: Day of the Imperial Republic [secular]
24 Laemill: Day of Remembrance [secular]
24 Araroqpin: Midsummer eve [secular]
1 Elroqpin: Midsummer day [secular]
2 Elroqpin: Jashan-e Khordad [Zurvanist]
9 Vixaslaa: Jashan-e Amurdad [Zurvanist]
15 Vixaslaa: Tiregan [Zurvanist]
5 Oskalteq: Feast day of Mandorallen [Ch of Elwynn]
16 Oskalteq: Day of the Forest [secular]
3 Muulantooqu: Day of Liberty (aka Independence Day) [secular]
19 Muulantooqu to 4 Ruugaall: Holy Bovic Week [Dozan Bovic Church] [10 days]
24 Rugaall [new year's eve the shortest year]
12 Qinamu [new year's eve in the Short Qinamu year]
24 Qinamu [new year's eve in the mid Qinamu year]
36 Qinamu [new year's eve in the long Qinamu year]
I would recommend the Day of Liberty or Independence Day to be the Elwynnese holiday. It is a secular non-ethnic holiday and embodies all that Elwynn stands for: self-determination, Elwynnese national identity (regardless of culture, language and religion). A modern holiday for a multi-cultural multi-ethnic multi-religious holiday. The real independence day corresponds to the IRL date 5 August 2010, which on the Shirerithian monthly calendar would be 4 Qarbinionsmoon, incidentally the same day as Erik's birthday. As this day is already celebrated in the rest of Shireroth as Glorious Founder's Day, maybe some other day would be best. There are also some political concerns with having Erik's birthday as a national Elwynnese independence day. It may prove controversial.
Since all dates (and celestial events), except Midsummer (summer solstice) fluctuate according to the seasons, Midsummer would be the second best secular national holiday to bring to the Imperial Republic. It's in the middle of Roqpin, an ancient Elwynnese two-month celebration. Summer solstice in the Cedrist calendar is 15 Ikolstyme. This Peak of Roqpin, as it also is called, would therefore be my final recommendation.
I would also recommend that the religious holidays be somewhat changed, so that an equal number of days are afforded each traditional religion in Elwynn. One to two days should also be afforded each non-Elw people in Elwynn for their celebrations, but to be a public holiday for all.

What kind of minor, unimposing ritual or task that can be incorporated into the holiday of Midsummer would you recommend?

Her Holiness the Lady of Oracle of Thingeyri wishes to convey that she should like that Fertility Fun Day, Volcano Lady Day, the Longest Day, and Sacred Day be added to holidays of Elwynn.

Here are the holidays I would like to add:
- Sacred Day (21 December / 1 Vidiland); the holiday that celebrates the first day of the Asgard Calendar Year and was to the Vikings of old the most sacred day of the year.
- End of Wonderment (27 December / 7 Vidiland); the holiday that mourns the destruction of Valtia when it sank into the sea.
- Fertility Fun Day (1 May / 12 Thrymheim); the holiday that celebrates the fertility of the soil and the sacred union of the Goddess and God.
- Valtia Day (17 July / 26 Himinbjorg); the holiday that celebrates the day that Valtia was founded when the women of group of Vikings led by a chieftain called Arnar Ingólfursson, who had fled the oppression by the very brutal King Halfdan Evilheart, forstalled the group from leaving the island where they had made landfall by burning its ships.

Re: Holidays [recommendations to Steward]
Sacred Day (Froyalanish new year) would take place on winter solstice, just as on the Light side of Vanaord. But due to time running twelve times faster on Micras than on the Light side of Vanaord, we need to adjust it. So for every Storish new year, 12 Froyalanish ones would have been celebrated.Fjorleif wrote:Here are the holidays I would like to add:
In addition to those four holidays I also would like to add Volcanio Lady Day, but we still will have to ick a date for that holiday.

The winter solstice fluctuates between dates in the Elw calendar, due to the erratic nature of Micras's orbit around the sun.
So it would therefore be:
24 Kuspor (336-day year)
18 Kuspor (348-day year)
12 Kuspor (360-day year)
6 Kuspor (372-day year)
Then the other dates, number of days from the new year in the Asgard calendar can then be added to the winter solstice for the Storish moveable feasts.

Thank you for the information!
What would according to you be a fitting date for Volcano Lady Day, the day that a couple of Ducal Surveyors of Froyalanish descent got lost on Bifrost and were saved by the Lady Elwynn?
