FUNERAL OF PRINCE DANIEL
Lake Anseth, Hurmu

It was almost night at Lake Anseth and in the sky the assembled would see the stars in all their splendour. The assembled stood at the sandy beach. They could hear the soft billows coming to shore. Being from from many walks of life, most Micran countries were represented among them.

Six cape-clad men walked to the beach from the village of Raknarai. On their shoulders, they carried the bier of Prince Daniel. When they approached the shoreline, a woman rose up.

"Lo, a king!" she shouted. "Lo, a king, and a dreamer that is dead!"

Not much was said this evening. There was some murmuring from among the guests, but as tradition in these lands dictate, this final journey begins in silence.

In the water there was a wooden ship. The six bearing men walked up the gangway and placed the bier there and then walked back to shore.

Through the light of torches, the assembled saw an inscription on the ship. If they recognized the runes and language, they would be able to read it.

"'Tis but Daniel, the Musician," sigh the whispering forest trees,
"For ended is his homeless day."
"Oh, would I were a hurricane," replies the gentle breeze,
"I would pipe him on his journey all the way!"

A torch was thrown on to the ship. Fire spread quickly over the ship. Losing anchor, it now drifted away on the quiet sea. It was as if the ship of fire was taking Daniel home. His last journey had just begun.

Among the number witnessing this, men and women of all ages from all over Elwynn, Amokolia and Hurmu, and beyond. Some were from Babkha, others from Batavia and Shireroth. United in silence they took farewell of a friend.

O'er the dark and angry waters, lo, the night sounds call to prayer,
For a Dreamer, a Musician, lies dead.

The assembled watched in silence as the burning ship floated away from the shore to the middle of the lake. The King of the Batavians prayed to his God Cato, to care for Daniel as he continued his existence in the afterlife. After he had prayed he looked around to see what the others were doing, not being familiar with the funeral rites of the Hurmu.

While the burning ship billowed its way to the horizon, the assembled went to the campfires where they sang childhood songs of comfort and put food on the grills.

Kaspar told the Batavian king that in Hurmu, when we are in grief, we come together and share the pain in togetherness. Food and songs help us all to ease the burdens.
