Since Giess disappeared in our universe, altGiess is still out there in the Mirror Universe. I think it was mentioned somewhere that one of the main conflicts (and reasons to develop space programs) is defending the space-traffic between the two planets... altGiess is still resource-rich and fuels the warring Meekran factions. The Hurmu Gate still connects Meekas/altGiess but Hurmu is staunchly neutral and forbids its gate to transport war material so no fighting has been established on altGiess.
I'm sure the two factions would be very keen to militarize their Giess colonies.... but perhaps the colonists would be against Meekras dragging them into a war. Giess might eventually take on its own character and fight Meekras!
I'm always sad I didn't devote enough energy to this project...
