Galinomai-Safiria Friendship Railroad

I am pleased to announce that today the first spike was ceremonially hammered into what will one day become the Galinomai-Safiria Friendship Railroad.

The Neroles Concordium in Aziruta is already reaping benefits, with the Galisyin and Safirian delegates agreeing to promote trade between their two nations. The Friendship Railroad is their first cooperative effort; the Safirians provide the technology and know-how, and the Galisyin provide the labor and investment.

The Friendship Railroad will run from the very base of the ruined holy city of Arborvine to the Safirian capital and great port of Mrxa-Kiscwrwm. On its way, it will skirt the foothills of the Venzebian Mountains, passing by the major monasteries of Arkurinve and Salastave and giving it access to the Galisyin monastic trade routes. It will then continue to the shores of the previously inaccessible Lake Limbolai before passing through a small range of hills to reach the Safirian coastal plane and the Mrxa-Kiscwrwm megalopolitan area.

There has been some concern about environmental impact, especially on the first part of the route during which is passes through some of the densest areas of the Galisyin jungle. Although the impact cannot be completely negated, engineers hope to minimize it by using a narrow gauge and smaller, less polluting trains, and by leaving the jungle around the track undisturbed. There will also be occasionally bridges and tunnels, allowing "wildlife corridors" through which the local fauna can cross the tracks.

Probably the most important part of the railroad on the Galisyin side will be where it reaches the edge of the Mountains Beyond Mountains and meets the monastic trade routes. If the plans for a station at the foot of Salastave are finalized, this could vastly raise the monastery's importance as the trading hub for all of Galinomai - since much of the rest of the railroad's course, including the terminus in Arborvine, is barely inhabited except for the occasional greendiver clan.

Also exciting from a Galisyin point of view is the access the track will provide to Lake Limbolai, previously unexplored because of its location beyond the mountains. Biologists and fishermen alike are anxious to discover what marine riches the lake holds, and the difficulty of traversing the jungle makes the lake a much-needed transportation hub if communities could be established on its shore.

A conclave of the monastic government has decided to send ten thousand monks - a full ten percent of the available work force - to work on the railroad, and greendivers are expected to be recruited later as well. Nehani Rjendin, sixth Abbot of Raknumve, told the Conclave he could not overstate the importance of the project for the Galisyin economy, declaring that it would open up entirely new areas of the country, allow farming beyond the subsistence level, and increase technology back to what it was in the First Flourishing. Tasyine Melekton, fourth Abbot of Darianve, disagreed, objecting that only discovery of the One Logic and the True Speech could restore the nation's fortunes; while the other monks commended her zeal, they generally agreed that a multifaceted strategy consisting of both economic development and logico-linguistic research was necessary.

The country has invested almost all its remaining funds, 1800 EC, into the project. Safiria, for its part, will be producing the trains. Raknumve is said to be especially excited about the prospect of refrigerated cars, which will allow Galisyin produce onto the world market for the first time.

Abbot Rjendin will be ceremonially hammering in the first spike tomorrow; his Safirian counterpart has been invited to complete the railroad by hammering in the last spike, which, if all goes according to schedule, will happen seven or eight years from now.

On behalf of Nature's Queen, I have the following statement to make, unto all her willed rulers, being Nature's ordained:

Nature's Queen is pleased that relations between Galinomai and Safiria are becoming friendlier. In reflecting such friendship, the two countries have established a transport link between them.

Nature's Queen is much pleased that Nature's ordained ruler over Safiria, Amane, has heeded the call from Nature's Queen to ignore roads. A railway is much better than paved roads in that transport is limited and that tracks can at any one time at any one place only take on vehicle at a time, thereby limiting the enivonmental impact on Nature. Nature's Queen has expressed her gratitude over the fact that concerns of Nature were addressed in constructing the rail link. Trade is unevitable for Nature and Nature's ordained governments, and Nature's Queen understands that, in order for trade to be realized, links must be established.

With all this said, Nature's Queen would like to extend her blessings to the natural rulers over Galinomai and Safiria on performing this momentous task. She congratulated them both and sincerely hopes that it will be beneficial to all Nature.

In the name of Nature's Queen,

Aroq Asanses
Ghost of Dâniyal the Dead
Disturb not my sleep!
