Landsraad Regalia

The Noor Gate is the closest that the unwashed of Shirekeep are allowed to approach to the inner sanctum of Raynor's Keep. It is the place for the submission of petitions, the reading of proclamations, and the public execution of heinous criminals.

Landsraad Regalia

Post by Fjorleif »

Electors,

I'm of the mind of creating regalia - in the sense of decorations, insignia and special dress indicative of membership of the Imperial Electorate - for the members of the Landsraad, and I hereby invite you to submit ideas and suggestions concerning this matter.

Among things that I was thinking of are robes and a chain of office.

Lady Praetor

From what I understand, the marker of your office has, by tradition, been the gavel and the praetor's hat. The hat is not always worn, it's been up to each praetor, but it's a symbol of the office, and should be included in the regalia. A cloak of office, rather than robe, is what I would recommend, and it would fit nicely with the history of the Landsraad.

If I recall, there is already a sword. Perhaps just a chain of office and an over-embroidered red and gold Byzantine style sash. As for the electors... perhaps something equivalent to a marshal's baton as a badge of office, and I expect everyone to dress like late 19th century cavalry officers... even the women, with a purple sash to carry on the Imperial connotations.

There's something odd about combining the military top half with the flowing dress bottom half. Catherine the Great is a better inspiration in that regard.

Not really, but since its a sprawling feudal-futurist technocracy with arcane under-tones; I'd say use Dune as a starting point...Erik did.

Which would mean 19th Century cavalry officer uniform. Because there is only one adaptation of Dune.

Twelve Peoples, twelve ways. :-D

For a Froyalanish Vanakvinna like me there are - among the garments that are accepted as formal attire for attending a legislature such as the Landsraad or the Royal Parliament - the Bunad or one of the many Priestessly ceremonial gowns.

Something like this would be nice:

Image
1.Titus Morvayne, Prefect of Shirekeep, Count of the Skyla Islands
2.Eki Aholibamah Verion, Queen in the North
3. Ludovic Verion, Lord of Blackstone and Governor-General of the Iron Company
4. Jeremy Harwinsson Archer, super sleuth

I suppose adding a "Landsraad Division" of cavalry to the orbat would be sufficient to excuse Electors strutting around like demented peacocks whilst dressed as Hussars, Uhlans and so forth.

I had in the back of my mind the idea of the creation of a Landsraad Guard for purposes of ceremony and protocol, with its (wo)manpower provided by the Imperial States and the Imperial Dominions/Government.

We can also use the Apollonian guard?

And of course the cudgellers-at-arms are quite capable of keeping the peace.

The Apollonian Guard were demoted to latrine guards after their escapades under Mordechai Kraut and Lord Montague. :doc:

The duty of providing for the security of the Landsraad is already conferred uopn the Mango Rangers. The Landsraad Guard would be purely for ceremonial.

The idea, however, of having a Cudgeller-at-Arms as the Landsraad equivalent of a Serjeant-at-Arms very much appeals to me. :-D

And also to allow for the use of mounted police, which would help with security immensely, because I imagine the Palace of Zirandorthel (TODO: model) is not a small building.
