The Trial of Adam
Adam had been released by his mother, to the custody of the Pentheros, who was required by divine intervention to punish Adam for his crimes. A grapefruit had been left to rot for two years since Aldin's conversation with Zurvan in the gardens. As soon as Adam's transport landed at Doza Air and Spaceport, he would be sent, shackled and burdened by an iron yolk, to the Pentheral Basilica to undergo the religious test of penance.
Aldin had been praying for the last two years over what Bous wanted to happen. Bous was silent on this matter. Aldin knew that the rot and mold and bugs in the grapefruit could easily kill a man, especially a young man. Would he be Adam's executioner? Would he willingly feed his brother poison? Would that make him just like Adam?
No, this was required. Aldin was simply administering a religious test. He was Pentheros, and Adam was technically still a Bosarch, and so he must go through penance.
A large crown had gathered in front of the Basilica to witness the trial, keen to get a glimpse of the evil incarnate that was Adam. Soon both Aldin and Adam appeared on a balcony. Aldin, avoiding eye contact with his brother, began to recite scripture and lead the crowd in a special Herd on justice and duty and compassion. All the while, he felt Adam's steely gaze on the back of his head.
"Now, Bous demands penance for when we transgress. He has designated the Grapefruit as representative of the sour taste we leave in his mouth when we sin. By eating a grapefruit, we understand a mere fraction of the disappointment Bous feels in us. In the name of Bous I hereby command Adam, a transgressing servant of Bous, to partake of this grapefruit, which has been left to rot for a period of time commensurate with his sins. May Bous and Zurvan have mercy on your soul," Aldin handed Adam the rotted black fruit.
Adam glared at Aldin, silently, motionlessly.
"Eat the fruit, Adam, for you surely will not die!," Aldin said forcefully, lying to his brother, he didn't know if Adam would die or not, "For Bous knows that in the day you eat it your eyes will be opened, and you will finally know the difference between good and evil."
As Aldin said this, guards held Adam's hands behind his back and held his mouth open and Aldin sliced the grapefruit, revealing more mold, insect eggs, and rot. Aldin placed the first slice in Adam's mouth and the guards closed his mouth and forced it down his throat. This continued as each slice of grapefruit was force-fed to Adam. When he swallowed the last slice, the guards threw him to the ground, Adam doubled over in pain. Adam brought his hands up to his mouth to try to induce vomiting.
"Hold his hands again!" Aldin commanded, "Stand him up straight, don't let him throw it up. If he does, catch it in a vessel and feed it to him again! Take him to the monastery, and we'll see if he survive the night."

Re: The Trial of Adam
"Aaaaaldiiiiiin!" shouted Adam in agony. "You are my brother, how can you do this to me, your brother, your flesh?"
Though he knew that Aldin loved him, despite all, Aldin loved Adam. Adam knew that if he ate that god-awful grapefruit, Aldin would do anything in his power to ensure Adam's survival. Then staying in the monastery wouldn't be too bad, he'd have time to study, grow stronger physically and mentally, and plot his revenge on his family for turning their backs on him.

Re: The Trial of Adam
Indeed! Let us drown out the naysayers with hymns sung joyously!
The Spirit of Cow like butter is melting;
The latter day glory begins to come forth;
The visions and blessings of old are returning;
The angels are coming to visit the earth
We'll sing and we'll shout with the armies of Athlon:
Hosanna, hosanna to Cow and the Saints!
Reverence to them in the highest be given,
Henceforth and forever: acow and acow!
The Cow is extending Athlon’s understanding—
Restoring her judges and all as at first;
The knowledge and power of Cow are expanding
The veil o'er the earth is beginning to burst.
We'll sing and we'll shout with the armies of Athlon:
Hosanna, hosanna to Cow and the Saints!
Reverence to them in the highest be given,
Henceforth and forever: acow and acow!
We call in our bovine assemblies, in spirit,
To spread forth the Kingdom of Athlon abroad,
That we through our faith may begin to inherit
The visions, and blessings, and glories of Cow.
