Re: ART21
Would like to, don't yet know if I will be able to.
Re: ART21
I can revise the time to a better one, if it would really help.

...featuring in-depth discussion on the Federated States of Meekronesia!
Meekronesian Flag
Lego debate!
Plus Lego means play well in Danish- the word as a brand is a proper noun... say Lego Bricks instead.
...I suppose this means Meekras is built of Legos?

Oh, I wish I would've known about this. I keep forgetting to check this forum.

Re: ART21
I only moved it from Saturday morning because I went fossil hunting this morning in Ordovician shale. I found trilobites and graptolites.
Re: ART21
^ WIN. I want to go down to Barton-on-Sea in Hampshire to scrape some stuff from the cliff face. I had some trillobites, ammonites and some vegetation imprints that I hadn't identified, but the ammonites crumbled away and I lost the other two.

I hope you realize that, by taking a Prescriptivist tack, your argument really isn't worth listening to, being, essentially, an Appeal to Tradition rather than observing real word usage. Languages evolve based off of the needs of the speakers to express what they mean, not whether some committee of grammarians will approve of such usage in their sacred tongue.Maximos wrote:Lego debate!

By your logic, people shouldn't use Xeroxes to copy papers, grab some Kleenexes to blow their nose, or put Band-Aids on cuts.
Re: ART21
I tend not to use proper nouns as regular noun words. I usually say 'copier,' or 'copy machine,' 'tissue,' and 'bandage.' I suppose Band-Aid is the one I'll use most often, but I often feel strange using the others. Then again, I also hate wearing shirts with brand logos on them, it makes me feel like a walking billboard, so perhaps it's somewhat of the same idea.

Re: ART21
But you would understand it if someone said that, right? Would you start mocking them?
When referring to a bunch of pieces produced by the LEGO company, how do you refer to them?

My, what passion! I never realised the subject could bring forth such fire, such, such... anger!
As much as I love your tin ear for irony, I have to point out that in reality I have no strong views on the issue either way. I just like to have a friendly chuckle at American accents.
If your view of linguistic evolution is that language is what people do say rather than what they ought to say, then Brits and Danes can't strictly be wrong either? I've only ever heard Brits and other Europeans say 'Lego' as a collective noun, or 'Lego bricks', bricks being the plural. It's a subject we often discuss, of course.
Shall I try and get the CEO of Lego to join us for the next ART, if the issue is really of such importance?
...Maybe I can get the Meekronesian Foreign Minister online too!

Re: ART21
I never said "Lego" and "Lego bricks" were wrong. I, in fact, agree, that "Lego bricks" is a more formal way of referring to it.
