Myrkrism - Religion of the Grypilmar

Post by Hugo »

From the first part of the Holy Book of Myrkrism, the Soellskynbok.
The Book of Myrkrism – The Soellskynbok

I. Fyrsta
In the beginning, Sanshonar, the Supreme Being, and his sons Zur and Oldan, whom he fashioned out of fragments of his soul, travelled to our dimension, so they might enjoy the calm of darkness. They followed the tribe of Wenduri, the star women, and tried to capture them for female companionship. Yet the Wenduri were not to be caught.
Impatient, Oldan, the embodiment of Sanshonar’s evil side, laid a trap for the Wenduri. As Oldan was to defile one of the Wenduri, Zur used all his power to free the star woman. In a fit of rage, Oldan set Zur aflame, burning him for three days.
When Sanshonar saw this, his sorrow shook the four corners of the universe. He was not able to restore Zur, the embodiment of Sanshonar’s good side, and molded him into a ball of earth, and other smoky remains, so that Zur might find peace without pain. To punish Oldan, Sanshonar trapped Oldan in a giant sphere. Oldan tried for many years to escape, using his fiery powers. But the sphere eventually turned Oldan into a sun, and Sanshonar was pleased that Oldan would be useful once more.

II. Samanhrid

Sanshonar was still sad about the disintegration of his sons. When he cried, his tears flowed onto Zur, the earth, and created the bodies of water. When Oldan, the son, shone on Zur, it made the earth a paradise. When the Wenduri saw this, their hearts opened up to Sanshonar and his sons. Sanshonar, though, did not know how to communicate with the Wenduri. For Millenia he tried to teach them his language, yet the Wenduri could not understand. It was at this time, when Zur forgave Oldan, and the brothers began to sing, for they knew not how else to communicate. This was the language of the Wenduri, and the strongest and most beautiful of their tribe broke away and settled down with Oldan and Zur.
The years went on and their children and grandchildren and so forth became the planets and stars. And Sanshonar was happy, because he, too, once again was able to converse with his sons. He was so happy in fact that his heart and soul grew so big that slivers fell onto the earth and created life.

III. Verrvald

From the slivers of Sanshonar’s heart and soul, mankind and all other creatures on
Earth were created. They could not see Sanshonar, for his greatness shone too brightly, but they felt him in their souls. Sanshonar, though, was worried when he saw that Oldan’s soul was still corrupt, and that the light from him was corrupting mankind. Sanshonar saw that one man was the most virtuous of all and gave him the power of loud speech to sway mankind to revere the calm of darkness, and conduct themselves with honor and dignity during the day.
Ganting, as he was known, travelled the earth many years, gaining many followers, but not all were swayed. It was at this time that Ganting was killed by a band of lawless men. Again Sanshonar felt deep sorrow, as he could not stop the light without destroying mankind. But hope arised, as Zur’s sing-song with the Wenduri reached the ears of the believers and they rejoiced. Sanshonar bestowed onto the believers the power to remain on the path of calm and darkness, if they adhere to the Song. And the believers did, and sang alongside Zur and the Wenduri, for eternity.
And Sanshonar told the followers of Ganting: “There shall come the day, when we will live in calm, when the darkness takes over the light, creating the twilight, where order is restored.”
