Bastion Union Overall Discussions
Ok, as raised on the still currently recording ART, we need some official ways to make official Bastion Union decisions. We don't want a legislature or anything, because we are not a merger. And we also get along reasonably well currently by OOC consensus. We just want/need to formalise this.
Three main things:
1. Boards
Who has the authority to create new top level boards?
Who decides what is created?
etc.
We can *probably* get by with OOC consensus, but it would be nice to have an official way of dealing with disputes like the one with the Religion Board. My approach thus far tends to be "If people don't complain too much, I'll just do it, and then remove it if they complain a lot," because I think a lot of micronational stuff don't happen because nobody does stuff. But that may not always work.
2. New Nations
Do we want new nations to join?
How do we decide whether a nation can join or not?
Personally, I believe that we should have all Bastion citizens discuss and vote on that sort of thing. With each citizen getting one vote, no matter how many dual citizenships they hold.
3. Foreign Representation of Bastion as a Whole
If we ever need to do that (eg things like Announcing us to the MCS) do we need to decide who can do this, or just run by consensus?

4. Unified policy on people whose avatars and sigs are too big. Shireroth has a much needed law against it, but we can't enforce it without general agreement.

We have a law against it? Really?Scott Alexander wrote:4. Unified policy on people whose avatars and sigs are too big. Shireroth has a much needed law against it, but we can't enforce it without general agreement.

1. There could be one forum administrator per member nation, and they collaborate on forum administrative needs. Maybe?
Generally, consensus is probably the best way to get collective efforts done.

Shireroth's awful sigs aside, yeah. So far we've just been winging it by doing whatever people wanted since the opposition has been small and not all that troubled to begin with, ie the religious forum. But sooner or later we're going to run into stuff we have to take a bit more seriously. That second point definitely regarding new nations joining. Hurmu asked us if they could join nearly the end of the original proceedings. Do you remember? We told them we'd like to setup Bastion and run it for a bit and see how it was doing and get back to them. You can hold your own opinions of if there has been enough time to properly "test" Bastion, but sooner or later we'll all agree that about enough time has passed and we'll have to address issues like Hurmu that we have no system for handling it. We can't just run it by consensus, since we have no definitions for that sort of system. How long do we give people to vote? Does everyone registered as a Bastion citizen get to vote or do they have to have posted in the past X weeks/months? How much is enough for something like this to pass: 100%? 66%? 50%+1? These may not be difficult questions to answer, but we haven't answered them yet, and more importantly we have no body that has the authority to answer and enforce them.
I'm not saying we should merge legislatures or anything like that. I'm not even saying we should create a pan-Bastion body. But we need some sort of system that we all agree on and can enforce, even if it's an informal one, to handle stuff like this.

It'd probably have to be somewhere more than +50% if we want to guarantee some sense of consensus.

I honestly felt like no one really gave a shit what I had to say on the religion forum matter, so I just didn't bother. Mob consensus was for it. Who am I to stand in the way?
I would like to see a sig limit like the Shireroth one. Consider the move here made all our forum laws null. (A fun little oversight to be sure.)

Not really. We can still legally prohibit anyone we want from posting on Shireroth's forum. It might not be possible to technologically enforce a ban on only the Shireroth sections of Bastion (although for all I know maybe it is), but at the very least I'm sure Ari would be willing to implement a rule that people must voluntarily abide by such bans or be banned from Bastion as a troublemaker.
These wouldn't apply to the general Bastion forums, but we couldn't enforce Shirerithian laws on an external micronational hub like MNN or MCS either, so no harm done.

It is, but if Jeremy and you don't do something about those signatures soon, I still might go all Winston Marlboro on the both of you.

I cut it down to five lines. How much less do you want? Jonas' is four.

Five lines of code, maybe. I don't know how it appears on your browser, but because of all the spoiler boxes and spaces between them, on my computer at least the height is equal to thirteen lines of text (yes, I actually went into Photoshop and compared them).
EDIT: Just checked, it appears to be a Shireroth skin vs. standard skin thing. Switch to Shireroth and you'll see what I mean.

Woah, yeah, that is fairly bad in Shireroth. Well, I'm happy for Ari to come up with a technical solution. In the meantime, you need to stop saying awesome quotes about me.
