Admit Oscland into Bastion

Post by Harvey »

As per http://bastionunion.org/forum/viewtopic ... 288#p18288 , Oscland has expressed interest in joining the Bastion Union.

This is a private topic where we can discuss our feelings on this, and if we want to go through that whole rigamarole of doing nation-specific votes or if we can just come to a clear consensus without it.

If Oscland was the one with all the watership down references in its city names then I'm wholly in favour.

What's this Oscland like? I have to be honest that I don't think I've ever heard of them.

I had a good deal of interaction with them when I was A-G of the MCS and when I was involved with the CIS. They were one of the original Lovely offshoots along with Jamzinia, New Brittania, etc. Oscar's always been a cool cat, so I'm in favor of seeing them join us.

A part of micronational history that I had completely blotted out!

Very much in favour, good to have Oscar back.

I was a citizen of Oscland once, Oscar's pretty cool. I'm slightly surprised he changed from the fashionable MCS 'anti-Bastion' view to the 'let's join' view that quickly, but that can only say good things about us :) So yeah, I'm in favour of them joining.

Considering it's like a one-man nation and that one man isn't you I don't think we have to worry too much about douchebags.

If its a one-man nation, shouldn't we gradually try to convince him to merge with an existing nation.

He's just trying to restart Oscland, which wasn't a one-man nation before, so I don't think he'd be very keen. He's already got one you see.

Would we be okay just declaring a consensus approval rather than mucking around with votes? Or, perhaps, does anyone have any strong objections to that and/or Oscland?

I think we should give this a few days just in case there are people that haven't seen it yet, but might as well try to set up the groundwork.

The established precedent is that new nations have to be approved by national votes. So I will be pushing for that.

The established precedent is that we can do whatever we want. We wanted national votes then. The question is if we still want them now.

Yep. Antica and Babkha had to be voted in, hence the precedent is that new nations need to be voted in. So I propose that we hold national votes.
