Tarsica: Knowns and Unknowns II: The Rewrite

Jasonian Aeronautics and Space Organization. A technology / vehicle development group. JASO was founded in the summer of 2000 during the great Golden Age of the FIoJ and has been serving the sector for over a decade. From civilian to military use, the smallest robotic vehicle to the most terrifying behemoth gravships, the fastest fighters to immobile research complexes, and the realistically possible to the "oh come on, there's no way that would work!", JASO does it it all. Owned by the Nelagan government with a Shirerithian minority controling share, but willing to work on joint projects with other-like minded groups for the common good.

Yeah. I'd had access to those at the time, but as I recall, the consensus at the time had been that the material was unrealistic enough that it should be retconned as fanciful legend.

Bah. The ecology as described is completely feasible within the given context - heating and cooling is diurnal causing melting and re-freezing of fresh water daily, this in turn causes evaporation which forms snow. Such situations have been hypothesized as potential environments on other planets that may support life. The polar worms, for example, are based on real species of centipedes that exist within the Arctic.

Yeah, but the Arctic's on a planet massive enough to hold onto an atmosphere. Though, then again, there is Titan, so...

Titans atmosphere is of great density due to its distance from the sun.

Titan is not the only moon to potentially hold an atmosphere and snowfall; Triton also possesses a tenuous nitrogen atmosphere.

Here's an interesting article about Rhea, one of Saturn's moons:

Orion, do you have any more ideas on Tarsica? What do you think about Natopia's colonies there?

Just noticed this. Digging articles up from the grave, are we? :p

Natopia's colonies have been there for ages. Don't really have much to offer on that topic. A regulatory agency that was actually active would be nice (we have MAS, but it's hardly active). But then few people utilize Tarsica. Even the full potential of Micras hasn't been thoroughly exhausted; and it's probably better to focus on that objective rather than an inhospitable moon.
