One of the main reasons Machinaria isn't working is because nobody knows what this place about. I still don't know how we can motivate immigrants to settle in here, as there hasn't been any decent description for this duchy. I wrote one, but that was more based upon Brookshire and Goldshire then it was on 'Machinaria'.Harvey wrote:Not sure why you haven't noticed, but Machinaria is failing hard because nobody has any idea what it is. You yourself even recommended newcomers not join it. It's like it's the setting of a story that only exists in the mind of you, Erik, and a little bit of Scott; a story that hasn't been told so we don't know what it is and can't build any enthusiasm for it. As if you found a canvas and threw a bit of paint at it, and while it made some interesting marks, it's so clearly unfinished that there’s nothing anyone else can do or say other than to wait around and see if anything else happens. And at this point seems more and more likely that it will never be really finished to the point where anyone will ever care.

Re: Harvey is right...
I think, in general, Brookshire has been stagnant for years. I can't really recall any significant development since Mike building Lakhesis. Goldshire did some stuff for a bit, and I try to put something in Asantelian from time to time, but nothing has been done otherwise since the House reform. Honestly, I think the House reform did a lot of damage to Shireroth as a whole that we still haven't really recovered from yet.
Re: Harvey is right...
Indeed. But the question is: how will we fully recover of it? I still have many ideas (which I'm, because of a lack of time, will probably not introduce during my reign), but that will not help solving the problems we're having.Kallinn Ynnetrrr wrote:I think, in general, Brookshire has been stagnant for years. Nonetheless, Brookshire atleast had a story, a history and a decent culture build around it. Immigrants who settled there atleast knew a bit of the duchy. After the House system, I agree, they didn't really do anything except nagging that Kildare had too many people (and instead of doing something to attract some of them, they used the traditional emotional blackmail, which I found quite annoying).
But now with Machinaria: I'm still not sure what the place is about, partly perhaps because Erik wanted to abolish even the counties.
Perhaps Raynoria will succeed in restoring some glory at local levels.

Harvey *is* right, you know. I was asking for a County of Machineia already last time this came up, but a certain helmet-wearing Gaelen went "meh" about the idea. It's good to see he's come to his senses and is now going to allow it to become a subdivision the size it should have been in the first place

http://shireroth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=13810 sums it up about right.
Re: Harvey is right...
Yeah, I remember something like that vaguely, yes... but about the county: where should it be located? I can decree the dissolution of the Duchy of Machinaria and the creation of the county (or even barony) of Machinaria, but I have to know where this has to be.ari wrote:Harvey *is* right, you know. And also important: what has to come in place? For the return of all older duchies we lack the manpower to sustain the system. Raynoria could take a bunch of them, of course (a fresh start for the old mainland), and I can re-establish Yardistan (it seems to have been a big mistake to get rid of it) with them having some of the counties on the mainland. The question that pops into my mind: who will govern it? I would need atleast one volunteer.
Btw, thank Harvey for reminding me of that topic. It's time we further debate where we're heading to and how we can improve the Empire.

I await the opening of a new thread on the subject, for I am interested enough to want to post in it, but lazy enough not to want to come up with a flashy way to open an important discussion like that.

Are you talking about Machinaria now?ari wrote:I await the opening of a new thread on the subject, for I am interested enough to want to post in it, but lazy enough not to want to come up with a flashy way to open an important discussion like that.
