Dreadfort isn't too bad. Only when you have a Ramsey in charge.

We are getting sidetracked. But still, when your symbol is a flayed man, you're a weird place.

It's a toss up between Gregor or Ramsay for which would be a better fit for Ardy.

In my mind I see:
Ardy = Gregor Clegane
Hesam = Ramsay Snow
Malliki = Sandor Clegane
Rossheim = White Walkers
Aryeztur = Salladhor Saan
Ari = Tyrion Lannister
Harvey = Stannis Baratheon
Chris = Lord Varys
Ric = Jon Snow
Jonas = Petyr Baelish
Jack = Loras Tyrell
Kai = Lysa Tully =p

Lol wat? Salladhor Saan? Rather, I always imaged myself somewhere in Dorne.

Reading the books would be better than watching it, if you could only do one of the two.

Hhmm, I think I actually have bought the book and placed it on my bookshelve to pretend that I had read it (I'm a bit behind with reading books I really wanted to read, so I never came to it). :nuke:

I personally find the series more enjoyable than the books. George Martin has some good ideas, but his style of writing grates on me at times.

I dunno. Other than the strangely-spelled proper noun here and there, I find his style delightful. It is at times subtle and others dramatic and others comic. It has delightful little moments, like when the crow gets onto Mormont's shoulder before shitting on him.

I was thinking more of the short, staccato sentences he has a habit of using for no readily apparent reason (i.e. they aren't trying to convey atmosphere or tension), or the occasions when he repeats the same phrase construction twice on a single page (when the first is still fresh in my mind). It's only a minor point in the grand scheme of things, but it just distracts me from all the good aspects of his writing.

I also dislike the way the reader is so obviously intended to root for certain characters, whilst others are irredeemably unlikeable. The series- thanks to some decent casting- manages to nuance some of the latter, which I must say I do appreciate, although I'm less fond of some of the other changes.

I feel like the series makes it easier to root for people because of the badass actors. Who roots for Tywin Lannister!? I kinda do even though I hate him. At least in the books Tyrion is more of an ass and they give a Catelyn-centered view of the North rather than Robb. It works because her thoughts are so undermining and demoralizing.

The series has its biases too. They really seem to want to make viewers hate Stannis. Book Stannis is a much more likable character.

At least book Stannis feels remorse at killing Renly afterwards.

But now this has become the ASOIAF discussion thread.
