Paul Duit was still somewhat bewildered from the noise of the capital of the Shirerithians. He was the only high placed military officer of the Vrije Weermacht who had ever set foot out of western Benacia. In his younger years he had visited Traiectum, which Batavian descendant simply kept calling Macoeur, with his parents to sell some surpluses from the harvest of that year. At a later age he had visited 's Koningenwaarde, which had also been renamed under the reign of its new masters, to gather support for funding the establishment of the Vrijmacht, the military force of the Vrystaat.

Nothing of all that, however, had prepared him for Shirekeep. The city was noisy and crowded. It held cultures and races which Paul had only seen in picture books and which he - wouldn't he have seen them with his own eyes - considered fairy tales. The city itself had a smell over it: not like the smell of flowers he was used to, but the smell of sewers. Especially when temperature rose, the smell spread through the corners of this metropolis.

Nonetheless, the simple Transbatavian wasn't here to play tourist, nor to enjoy the hundreds of specialties the city had to offer. He was here to meet the (so-called) honorable gentlemen of the foreign office. The guards standing in front of the gate weren't looking all to keen to help him get in, so Paul was lost in what he had to do, now he had reached the building.

As he stood there he attracted the attention from a tourist claiming to originate from Xang Muang.

"Ah, you're the famous diplomat visiting the minister yes? I have never been in the Ministry of Exterior but I would like to visit it and meet these high-ranked people. Can I come with you as your assistant?"

Sadly the tourist was arrested for violating the terms of his visa by touting for work. Even more regrettably, the hapless foreigner slipped and impaled himself on the bayonet of the Sentinel standing watch outside of the Ministry building.

Herr Duit was ushered away by his minders, assigned from the Vigiles Arcani and the Imperial Marshals, to a holding facility from whence his narrative will resume in due course.

Herr Duit was subsequently held in detention for fourteen months before he was given the choice of becoming His Majesty's Loyal Subject or of returning to the Green from whence he came.
