SEEKING MOOSE KING OF ARMS
The Ministry of Information is seeking a Shirerithian citizen, or foreigner eligible for immigration, to fill the position of Moose King of Arms.
Job Description: Designing and updating Coats of Arms for Shirerithian government and subdivisions as well as private companies and individuals. Head of the Imperial Chroniclers of Arms.
Responsible to: Nominally the Minister for Information, but attached to the Kaiser's Court and appointed by zir.
Salary and other benefits: Apartment within Raynor's Keep; traditional allowance of 5 mangoes a day and permission to hunt on the Skyla Isles. Exceptional work will bring praise, fame, and erb if that's what you're into.
Notes: Previously named the Mango King of Arms. We have several talented Shirerithians who are brilliant with vector imaging and have a working knowledge of European heraldry (who are welcome to apply) but this is a good job for someone who wants to learn more about heraldry, because people's requests will give you a clear objective for research and honing your skills. There's also the tantalising prospect of a new Shirerithian (read: Benacian) alternative heraldic system which we have floated before but, as far as I can remember, never developed.

What I was suggesting was more of a "mentorship": if there is someone with the time and graphical know-how to make the images, but who doesn't have much experience with heraldic design, I can always help them out.

You have no idea, no idea at all, how tempted I am by this, having been (as it was then called) Mango King of Arms once before... not that I accomplished much. But the reasons why I did not accomplish much then probably still apply now, so I'm holding off on putting myself forward for that. (See this old subforum for the stuff that was done back in the day.)

As it is, though, I would like to be involved in some capacity, official/undermoose-ish or not. And I had one or two ideas related to a Musican coat of arms that I'd like to lobby for.

I request that my title be changed to "Necromoose", as in "Necromoose Undermoose of Arms Extraordinary". My badge of office will, naturally, by a moose skull (quite where I will find an image of that is beyond me, however).

Alternatively, if you want someone to emblazon the designs and produce formal grants of arms for applicants (instead of just producing an image and saying "here you go"), then I could horribly abuse my position as Kaiseress to create myself "Countess Marshal of Shireroth". I do have the time to handle that side of the process, as that is not dependent on having access to a vector-graphics package. It would then allow the King of Arms and Undermoose to concentrate on the design and graphical side.

Might that structural back-up be enough to persuade a certain well-qualified person to give the job a go?

..I'll think about it. That might cover concerns about time and attention, though another part of my reluctance comes from the fact that, in general, but particularly in vector art, I'm not all that good at animals, people, and detailed shading, should those be required... though I guess in most cases the latter can be worked around, consider how stylized a lot of heraldry is.

Basically, it was composed of two thoughts:

-First, the Victorian Accordion-Playing Monkey, I thought, would make an excellent supporter with just a few minor changes.

-Second, I found something that would make a decent motto. "Musica laetitiae comes, medicina dolorum": "Music (or Musica) is a companion to joy and a medicine for pains", more or less.

I was going to add that I don't actually have anything visible to show, but then I thought, meh, I'll take a crack at it. I tried to vectorize the Monkey by hand, with pretty horrifying results, so I tried CorelDRAW's auto-trace function instead. The results are kind of... impressionist, but it meant I could add another visible arm to it to make it look like it was leaning on the shield without it looking completely sucky.
