Purification Day Festival

Post by Nathan »

Today is Purification Day. Natopians all over the Dominion come to Butter Cow City to celebrate and honor the collapse of the Venerable Union of Aligned States. The VUAS joined Natopia, Lavalon, Faronia and New Germany into a single federation under Natopia.

Purification Day is usually celebrated with an art festival as former emperor Nathan's coronation jubilee provided a nice week long holiday. Now, however, citizens gather in Butter Cow City, the new city built on the ruins of Lavalon's old capital, to remember. In the after math of the collapse, Natopians re-conceptualized the failure of the union as one of fortune. The three other members are now doomed to obscurity, with only Natopia remaining on the face of Micras. The collapse of the VUAS also prompted sweeping reforms within Natopia that resulted in the government transitioning from republic to monarchy, seen by many as a fortunate result of the collapse.

Today, Natopians celebrate a bittersweet holiday, one that reminds them of a collapsed empire, their first attempt at one and their first expansion onto the mainland of Tapfer. However, the collapse of VUAS marked the beginning of the permanent removal of Lavalon and the others as Micran powers, allowing Natopia to expand to former Lavalonian land and colonizing it as our own, while still respecting the native culture as much as possible.

This day also honors the twisted and shared history of Natopia and Lavalon, considered at one point in their history to be sister nations. Their healthy rivalry soon gave way to distrust and misery in both nations. Throughout the Dominion, younger citizens celebrate the day with the traditional bonfire of eucalyptus wood and burning Xon effigies.
