In the years since the Uppheaval, Nettivity had lost its cache as the gay resort of Natopia. Several cities delighted in Nettivity's loss, but only one city had the personal favor of the Emperor. Avenged City was perfectly situated to become Natopia's top-tier gay party destination. It had fallen on hard times as the fishing industry became increasingly automated, it had a warm climate, beautiful sea views, the Punkrock Isles had no duke, and city leaders could be sure that their king, the emperor, would never pass laws that may upset the free-nature of Avenged City's new party vibe. It was also an open secret that the Emperor spent many of his weekends in Avenged City, which helped boost tourism immensely.

Outwardly, the Emperor was careful to appear strong and measured, but he was clearly emotionally drained. Tabloids would report things he said while asleep, "You've only yourself to blame, Nate" he reportedly muttered to himself each night, "You left him alone and this is the result. The world thought you were dead, no wonder everyone moved on."

He often wondered how he could reach out to his former love, and if he would even want anything to do with him now that he had a family.
