Humanitarian Proposal

Post by Asara »

To my Counterpart Chamberlain:

As you may know, my office has been put in charge of disbursing funds in relation to the Ura'Bos nuclear test. No doubt, large amounts of mundane radioactive material, like dirt, debris, former residents, need to be removed from the test site to prevent long-term effects and avert an environmental disaster. I propose utilizing the Spacefleet to remove this material from Micras instead of burying it or dumping it in the ocean. We can store the material on Tarsica or launch it deeper into the Atos system.

It is a plan we can consider. Although the island was mostly depopulated before the tests, there is indeed a significant quantity of contaminated debris - mostly in the form of irradiated topsoil, foliage, scrap metal from ships decommissioned in the blast, dragon carcasses. &etc While it might be more cost effective to dig a deep pit, bury the contaminated material and pour several layers of concrete on top, than say remove it from the planet entirely, there is another issue to consider.

Ever since the Spacefleet was degraded in its battle against the GC forces, the intrusion of extraterrestrial lifeforms into the Atos System and onto Micras has grown at an alarming rate. We can all recall the infestation of Safir during the previous century only to well, and indeed it seems that situation is going to get worse before it gets better.

If the Shirerithians give us their blessing to gather up this material (and their resident officer would probably welcome the company) it would be a shame to let all that good ionising radiation go to waste. What better way could there be for us to assert human dominion over the Atos System than to leave little radioactive markers on the other worlds of the inner system? At the very least, as a test of the theory we should load up a shuttle craft and fire it off in the direction of Pyros. In our ancient history, mariners who claimed new shores would leave a memorial plaque as an indelible marker of their visit and to assert the rights due to those who were first to claim the distant shores. This would be our way of achieving something similar, and at the very least of asserting our proprietorial interest in the galactic 'near abroad'.
