[Exhibition] The Demesnes: A Visual Tour of the Dominion

Post by Christo Eucalyptos »

The Demesnes: A Visual Tour of the Dominion

The Dominion itself is full of rich artistic treasures but it is difficult to see them all in one place. As curator of the Dominion Library Art Museum I spent years planning this exhibition and traveling throughout the Dominion to secure the loans and purchases necessary. My intent was to show the seldom-seen parts of the Dominion, to shine a light on some of the more beautiful landscapes. The exhibition is a part of the "Revitalize the Forum" program sponsored by the Chancellor's Bureau of Infrastructure and the Bureau of Development. These images were chosen for certain publications, billboards, and other images in an effort to re-brand the demesnes and other branches of the government.

Curator of Collections

This exhibition was funded thanks to The Chancellorial Endowment Fund, The National Ministry - Bureau of Culture, and Dingo Enterprises.

Wheat Stacks with Reaper, 1488
Vincent Van Stadt
From the Butter Cow City Museum of Art, Sororiya

Van Stadt is a Lochhatonian painter who moved to Sororiya to paint landscapes. This wheat field is a common sight in the "bagel belt" of fertile land between Aurochsburg and Bagelston. A small village is seen on the horizon and a Sororiyan farmer tends to the field in the foreground. Van Stadt captured the golden light of the Sororiyan fields and the quintessential lifestyle of the Sororiyan farmer. Sororiya is often associated with political upheaval and opposition to the government in Lindstrom City, but that viewpoint almost always neglects the majority of the population, shown here and in many of Van Stadt's other landscapes.

The Floor of the Frenzy, 1422-1423
Samuel Mores
From the Capital Gallery, Lindstrom City

Samuel Mores is best known for his technological innovations, but he was formally a professional painter. The Frenzy bought this intimate scene of a late night debate from Mores. Although not a demesne, the independent capital city belongs to all citizens of Natopia, and the Frenzy represents all of the demesnes working together. In many ways, this is a portrait of Natopia herself.

The Death of Chow Dhury, 1473-78
Gustave Morose
From the Tasneemia City Museum, Tas Neemia

Chow Dhury of the Tas Neemia, a mythic-quasi-legendary figure, was the leader of the Neemites. According to legend she flung herself from the cliffs of Tas Neemia to spurn the advances of a tribe leader to the south. Her body was then held under guard by her jealous father until she was revived.

Winter Landscape with Skaters, 1265
Peter Bagel the Elder
From the Anmutstadt Museum of Lochhatonian Heritage, Ziegeland

This scene of a village in the Lochhatonian hinterland evokes the quaint charm of the area. Even today visitors marvel at the historical villages. The Lochhatonians have chosen to stunt their architectural development at this period in history, during the cultural height of the Haas, their ancestors.

Downtown Borders City, 1526
Franz Leng
From the Borders City Image Company

This photograph of downtown Borders City offers a stark comparison to the previous painting of Lochhatonian, directly across the strait. Borders City is a large metropolis, pre-planned and heavily reliant on technology and industry.

An Old Mill, 1578
James Arthur O'Connor
From the Arboria Auction House

An obscure pastoral landscape of one of the more bucolic corners of the foothills of Arboria, this rare original by the barely-known James Arthur O'Connor was recently discovered at a rural auction, and was thus able to be acquired for a suitable pittance, accompanied by an appropriate donation to the sanctity and wisdom of the Butter Cow. Dating from 1578, this picturesque work is entitled "An Old Mill" and depicts the idyllic life of a rural miller fishing at leisure at the end of his working day. His descendants have recently converted the mill into a luxury holiday home, and have offered preferential rates to the staff of this most august institution.

Dear Mr Elm,

The installation of third tour appears to have stalled. Have all the sponsors contributed their respective funds?

My Lordship, Minister Erion,

The ongoing exhibition "The Demesnes" has indeed run into a slight scheduling conflict. I won't bore you with the details of the logistical nightmare we have entangled ourselves in. I hope you have not been too terribly inconvenienced. If you happen to stop by the Museum please call on my and I'll make sure to grant a personal tour to make up for it.

Your,

Shawn Elm,

The End of the World, 1548
Drew Withe

Thalassa. The name of the empire's newest demesne conjures many images in ones mind. As a territory, the land struggled to prosper until its frontier was tamed by the railroad, the highway, and closer interaction with Stormark and Alexandria. It has since grown to become one of the empire's greatest resource producers. This image of a woman crawling towards her farmhouse is a popular image of the old Thalassan west, tough, unforgiving, unyielding, endless.
