Establishment of the Senyan Space Program

Post by DES Senya »

In 1611, Senya first embarked on its space exploration, by applying to join the then Micran Space Exploration Organization. Although no progress was made or rockets launched, Senya began the construction of Space City.

Space City, located in Lamantia, south of Colgrad and north of Bergdorf, is built upon a pleateau which makes for the perfect launch site for rockets. Whilst Senya has never launched any ships into space, Space City has grown into a major population centre. Home of the Senyan Space Agency (SSA), the city is home to over 100,000 people, and is a centre for science, with many aerospace, military and scientific institutions located within the city. The City is home to a space centre which houses a mission control centre, construction yards for spaceships and five launch sites. The site was completed in 1633 and since then has been fully operational.

Whilst the MSEO missions never occured, Senya has been preparing for a launch into space for many years, and has finally constructed a rocket that will take the Senyan nation into space. The rocket has no launch date listed yet, but the following are goals of the Senyan space program.

- Succesfully launch rockets into space, to check the capabiilty and reliability of Senyan spacecraft.
- To launch humans into space upon these rockets.
- To establish long term human habitation in space as a centre for research, potentially in the establishment of a Senyan space station or working with other nations in this department.
- Potential mission to Tarsica.

The Senyan space program is not ignorant of the significant challenges of fulfilling these ambitions however it remains fully committed to the peaceful exploration of space and to the understanding of humanity on Micras.

History

Senya first became involved in space exploration by being a member of the Micrasian Space Exploration Organistation (MSEO) in 1611. During this time, Senya established Space City in Lamantia as a site which would be used by the MSEO to launch a manned mission to Tarsica, which was one of the founding aims of the MSEO. This also included the construction of an airfield to be used for the landing of a re-usable spacecraft upon landing, though when the program was eventually abandoned, this airfield was later re-configured a commercial civilian airport.

The MSEO was a joint project between a number of international partners, with a headquarters located in Shireroth, with Senya merely acting as one of several international partners and the location of the launch facility. However, as events transpired for no MSEO mission to be launched, Senya established the Senyan Space Agency to pursue its own goals in 1635.

The Sanya programme was established to be Senya's first foray into space. The aim of the programme was to test Senyan capablities in getting a spacecraft into space, as well as returning the ship back to the earth and establish an orbit. The first three rockets in this programme will be conducted without a manned crew, whilst the fourth launch will see the introduction of a human pilot. Senya's goal with the programme is to establish experience in launches and to prepare for the eventual construction and habitation of a Senyan Space Station.

International Co-operation

From the outset of its Sanya programme in 1683, Senya invited all friendly nations to participate in the Senyan Space Programme Working Group (SSP-WG). With approval from the Senyan government and by invite only, foreign nations will be permitted access to use Senya's launch facilities to put non-military satellites into space, to use and propose research on the spaceflights, and to select astronauts to launch on Senyan missions. In the future, Senya hopes to allow the SSP-WG agencies to have a permanent presence on a space station.

The Current list of international partners is as follows;
- Elwynn
- Krasnocoria
- Mercury

First Senyan launch successful

Image

The Senyan space community celebrated its first mission into space with the successful launch of the Sanya-1 rocket into orbit. The Sanya spaceship, which was under automated radio control for this flight, completed one full orbit of Micras after being launched from pad SCLP-O1 (Space City Launch Pad 01) on the back of a SMOR (Senyan Mission to Orbit Rocket) on 13 VIII 1683.

The launch sees Senya's first foray into space complete, with the rocket engineers announcing that there were no major issues and the only issues that arose were communications with the orbital module, mainly when the orbital module was on the other side of the planet to the Senyan nation.

The Sanya orbital module splashed down in Lake Lamantia, 120 km north of Redditch, and was recovered by the Senyan coastguard.

The second rocket launch of the Senyan Space Programme fostered yet another positive outcome.

Sanya-2 blasted off from Space City on the morning of 2 IX 1683 into space. However unlike its predecessor, which orbited Micras once before returning to Micras, remained in space for three days after launch. The mission was successful, with the communications issues this time being solved as the orbiter was able to be flown from Space City's control centre. This meant that the Senyan Space Agency was able to fully control the orbiter and was able to instruct in key areas, including launching thrusters on day 2 and controlling the landing sequence. The craft once again successfully splashed down in Lake Lamantia.

A third and final unmanned test, Sanya-3. will be launched on 16 IX 1683. Like Sanya-2, this rocket will orbit Micras for 3 days before splashing down in Lake Lamantia. Should all be successful, Senyan astronaut Jon Zagarƨka will become the first Senyan to fly into space onboard Sanya-4 on 5 X 1683.

The third rocket launch took place on 16 IX 1683 and produced yet another successful test, paving the way for the first manned mission.

Once again, the Sanya rocket was launched into orbit, where it remained for three days whilst being controlled from the ground. With manual testing having now been completed on the ground, the team at Space City is confident that astronaut Jon Zagarƨka, who will pilot the inaugural launch on 5 X 1683, will be successful.

Once again, the craft splashed down safely in Lake Lamantia, with recovery vehicles finding it soon after. The Senyan Space Agency says that it feels comfortable with the successes of its three unmanned launches now sending humans into orbit.

The first few missions will test Senyan capabilities of equipment in space, before construction begins on a Senyan Space Station.

An historic moment occurred on 5 X 1683 as Jon Zagarƨka became the first Senyan to go into space as he blasted off on Sanya-4 from Space City. Zagarƨka's orbiter separated from its rockets without incident and Jon became the first Senyan to experience micro-gravity inside his capsule. On his two day mission, Jon lived inside his capsule, which had two rooms, the main descent module, and an extra module containing equipment, food, and a tethered sleeping bag.

Once again, the orbiter splashed down in Lake Lamantia.

The completion of Senya's first manned mission not only was cause for celebration across the country, with Zagarƨka set to be honoured, but also confirmed Senya's mission to construct a space station. Modules had already began being assembled at Space City for the past 15 years, so Senya is more than ready to start launching them up. However, the Senyan Space Agency has warned that this will not be something that can be built with just one launch and construction crews will be sent up in order to help construct the Space Station.

Following on from the first launch of a Senyan into space, the Senyan Space Agency is delighted to announce the commencement of the Enigma spacecraft. Able to hold up to 8 spaceflight participants and having a much larger payload capacity, the Enigma craft will help launch large sections of the space station into orbit. The first module to be brought up will be a docking module, along with a robotic arm that will be used to help assemble the station and some solar panels.

The crew on board will consist of five Senyan astronauts, Martin Clover, James Duckley, Ana Sinkler, Jesika Ƨesgovek and Aleks Vɏensk, along with Krasnocorian cosmonaut Krasnoslav Jerinić.

Senya are also delighted to welcome Sanama's Federal Space Directorate to the programme. Sanama have committed to production of electronics and parts to be used on board both the rockets and the space station, alongside the financial contributions of being a working group member. The FSD will also begin a recruitment process, which will be partly conducted in Space City, to select astronauts for future spaceflights.

On 19 XI 1683, Senya launched Enigma-1, the first Enigma spacecraft which has a much larger carrying capacity than the Sanya ship, allows for crews of upto 8 to venture into space, plus cargo. The Enigma-1 contained a docking module, solar panels and a robotic arm to aid construction, which were installed by the crew. The crew stayed onboard the Enigma craft, sleeping in the sleep stations aboard, whilst carrying out construction.

The expedition contained 6 astronauts, including Krasnocorian cosmonaut Krasnoslav Jerinić, who took expertise from his training for the USSO's Orbital Command to help aid Senya in the construction of their space station. His crewmates on this mission were Martin Clover, James Duckley, Ana Sinkler, Jesika Ƨesgovek and Aleks Vɏensk.

The construction was successful and after a few days the crew returned to Micras. The main hull of the craft splashed down in Lake Lamantia and was retrieved by a barge to ensure that it can be used in future missions.

Ground tests of the robots proved successful and mission control in Lamantia were able to control the arm from the ground, enabling capture ahead of future missions.

19 XIII 1683, Enigma-3 was launched. Once again, only 4 astronauts came up, with Martin Clover and Ana Sinkler making a return to space, along with Aleks Zvezger and Amy Jenkins making their first spaceflights. They installed two further laboratories, an additional storage space complete with two additional docking ports. The Senyan Space Agency confirmed that Enigma-4 will be the last "service" flight up to the Space Station before the expeditions and human long-term habitation of it begins.
