The National Development Party has entered into negotiations with the National Front and Social Democratic Party for a constitutional amendment to take effect before the 1668 elections. The purpose of the amendment is to reduce the number of National Assembly seats to 380. What has leaked from the negotiations so far is that both the National Front and Social Democrats demand that the bonus seats for large parties per governorate is removed. NDP has allegedly countered with a proposal for a nationwide 5% threshold for representation in the assembly.

PRESS RELEASE

The National Development Party, National Front and Social Democratic Party have reached an agreement for a constitutional amendment affecting elections and the composition of the National Assembly. The total number of seats will be reduced to 380. Of these 340 will be distributed among the governorates according to the largest remainer method. The other 40 seats will be leveling seats. Members will be elected per governorate according to D'Hondt's method. The leveling seats will then be allocated according to the same method. There will be a national 5% threshold for representation. The amendment will be introduced shortly in the National Assembly and will come into effect before the 1668 election.

Following the agreement between the National Development Party, the National Front and the Social Democratic Party to amend the constitution, the Conservative Party has announced that it is leaving the Sadrist Alliance. In a brief press statement, the leadership of the party said that while they are still largely supportive of the Sadrist agenda, the party has withdrawn from the formal alliance due to the deal. The Conservatives garnered 3.5% support in the National Assembly elections and, if that level of support carries through to the 1668 elections, the party will be eliminated from the National Assembly. The party stated that it will focus on building its base to make the new threshold in the next election.

A faction of the Socialist Workers' Party today announced that they are leaving the SWP to form a new party, the Communist Party of Talenore. The spokesperson refers to unsolvable differences between the group and the party leadership, a leadership it claims has become too centrist.

Rumors from officials within the National Development Party say that the working relationship with the National Front, with which the NDP forms a coalition government, is on shaky ground. The NDP is increasingly drifting towards the center, especially on social issues, while the NF is preoccupied with ethnic, religious and traditional issues. A growing number of elected NDP officials are pressuring the leadership to dump the NF and go into the 1671 elections as a fully independent party.

NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT PARTY - PRESS COMMUNIQUE
1.II.1670

To maximize the ability for the National Development Party to conduct a positive election campaign next year, and to protect the interests of our voters, we today announce the dissolution of the Sadrist Alliance with the National Front. The formal cooperation between the NDP and the NF has been positive for both parties and for Talenore. Now, however, we see a better way to serve the nation as a fully independent party. The Governor General also confirms that a government reshuffle will take place, where NF members of the Council of State will be replaced. The Governor General has informed the Kaiser and an announcement will be made shortly.
