the following letter has been received by the Praesidium of the Jingbuist Soviet, we do not think it is of any consequence but still offer this for review.
The people of Ergonia are saddened and heartbroken that the mighty Jingdaoese have decided to flex their diplomatic muscle in opposing their entry into the MTO. I send on their behalf a message of apology and the question of what Ergonia can do to make any possible remaining Jingdaoese anger over the joke war declaration be eradicated. We could send tribute, as we sent to Apollonia when it was upset.
I must confess that I become emotional of this pledge by the Ergonian representative. He begged in front of our honourable Diwang to get our approval to join an international organisation. The man even offered to pay tribute! This is something which brings me to the most important part of whole affair: the tribut system which has fallen in disarray!
When I walked to the Soviet today, I heard many of my colleagues talk about a treaty with Alexandria and I'm sure that others are - in secret - discussing things like this. In other words: our way of handling foreign affairs has become a mess!
During the First Empire everyone knew what to do before even thinking about getting recognised: they had to bow their heads, plea to even meet the Heavenly Light - a meeting which would be worth half a kingdom on its own - and then we would consider based upon the tribute paid.
I want to use this discussion, not to give Ergonia what it wants, but ask my comrades of the Soviet and the Grand Secretariat: let us re-introduce a tribute system. Those who pay tribute will be handled with respect, as they have - at least in our eyes - recognised our Heavenly Light as standing above their pitiful lords and masters.

How dare you insult Her Divine Majesty's Government's handling of the negotiations with Alexandria! Fou! Fou! Fou! We received a very nice painting from the Alexandrians, that they called it a gift instead of tribute is nothing new, foreign nations have always called their tribute a gift as a way not to offend their own population. I would have you immediately beheaded if I didn't have such a full agenda, such insolence! I will spare you today, but only because I have other things to do!
Now, I do agree that the tribute system could be brought more to the foreground and I hope you can share your ideas. However, I feel that the Ergonians have nothing of worth to give us. We have heaps of gold already!
May my foul words be damned! I can only ask, no, beg my Heavenly Light and the Gods to be merciful for my disgraceful behaviour. Be assured that I will act as a responsible representative of the State by joining the re-education camp after I have shared my ideas with Grand Secretariat.

One of the Ergonians succeeded in sending me a message with a carrier pigeon:
Master Hadrian,
Please inform His Excellency Rasmus that while
we have kept the door open for diplomacy for
a lon g time, with his la test comments, it is quickly
closing. Once closed, it is unlikely to be reopened
again. Admittedly, th is will cause more consequences
for your minor pawn states, like Talenore, than Ji ngdao
itself.
Regards,
Thadeus Lange Jr.
I advise that we don't harass Her Divine Majesty with this kind of weird things.

Comrades, another letter. The contents puzzle me, they declared war on us if I am not mistaken...
Your Excellency,
The latest comments from members of your regime
actually make our next move simple: elimination of
further diplomacy with Jingdao from Ergonia as a
possibility. From hereon we will consider Jingdao
as a potentially hostile void enveloping much of
southern Apollonia. Now it is us who will expect
gold bars, gifts, etc. to make up for your insults.
With our membership in the MTO, the tables have
turned. Please be forewarned, too, that we will no longer
give the benefit of the doubt to the activities of
your satellite nations like Talenore, as to whether
those activities might be nefarious on the High Seas.

I am shocked by the lack of etiquette in this letter, calling Her Divine Majesty "excellency", as if she were a mere minister or diwang! And a man, that too. This is awful, I have not seen anything as horrible as this in my life.

The children who read this will be scarred for life by those atrocities.
