Obituary: Robert Laing

Post by Thadeus Laing »

From the New Vaduz Beacon-Tribune:

Robert Laing, also known as Roberto Melanje, has become a comet, passing
away at the ripe young age of 53 due to a coronary event. He was
rushed late last evening with chest pains to New Vaduz General Hospital
where doctors made their diagnosis. He passed away later that night.

Well regarded within the Melangian and Brettish expatriate community in
New Vaduz, he donated millions to construct the Melangian Social Hall and
the Museum of Ergonian Art in New Vaduz (MEAN). His second cousin once
removed, Thadius Laing II, informed the Beacon-Tribune that Laing
had always loved animals, especially beagles, and that one of his favorite past
times was spending hours tending to the canines in a special custom built kennel
at the Laing Estate in New Vaduz.

(The pets are to be donated to the New Vaduz Humane Society to find
suitable owners for them.)

Robert Laing was CEO of EGE, formerly CWG, for several stints, as well as
serving in other roles in companies started by or run by members of the Laing
family. He tried many times to develop business with Verions' Iron Company and
TalCorp, but failed, leading him to explain to his friends his motto, "Try, try, again."
Laing was also an advisor and right hand man to his cousin Thadius' during his
surprising rise to political power in the former independent land of Ergonia.

EGE has not yet named a successor.

I commend the Beacon-Tribune on its touching tribute to my cousin.
This is a sad day in the Laing household. As for the CEO of EGE, we
are already looking at various options. (Yraite Ergonak has stated he
does not wish to be CEO at this time.)

I would have greatly looked forward to running against my cousin Robert
in the elections for Lord Mayor. Although we opposed each other many
times on various matters, he was always a fun person to be around and
a gracious person to be around.
