REDQUILL — Four AN months before the general election, the Union Democratic Movement (UDM) hold a 12-point lead in party preference among registered voters, according to a new Morning Star Tribune poll.

The results suggest a political environment where the UDM has the clear advantage in their pursuit to keep control of the Chamber of Deputies.

Still, the same poll shows that enthusiasm about the upcoming election has increased among those voters that prefer the Free Bagels and Juice Party (FBJP), drawing nearly even with Democrats; and that nearly 70 percent of voters are satisfied with the job performance of Lord High Steward Ernesto de la Cruz.

In the survey, 52 percent of registered voters say they prefer a Democratic-controlled Chamber of Deputies, versus 40 percent who want the Free Bagels and Juice Party in charge.

That 12-point lead for the UDM is an increase from last month, when they held an 8-point edge, 50 percent to 42 percent, although the change is within the survey’s margin of error.

The poll also asked voters positions on key issues in the 1664 campaign.

The most popular issues:
  • 58% said they are more likely to vote for a candidate who favors greater investments in infrastructure around the Most Serene Union;
  • 55% said they are more likely to vote for a candidate who supports cutting taxes for businesses and individuals;
  • 51% said they are more likely to vote for a candidate who supports reducing red tape for individuals wishing to start new businesses.
The least popular issues:
  • 82% said they are less likely to vote for a candidate who favors raising income taxes;
  • 69% said they are less likely to vote for a candidate that favors the restoration of Vanic rule in neighboring Massat and Opagheia;
  • 53% said they are less likely to back a candidate that supports ending special supports for vulnerable refugee populations in the Most Serene Union.
Finally, the poll finds 69 percent of voters saying they’re either “very” or “somewhat” satisfied with the state of the Neridian economy.

The Morning Star Tribune poll was conducted with 900 voters — nearly half reached by cellphone — and it has an overall margin of error of plus-minus 3.3 percentage points. The margin of error for the 594 likely voters is plus-minus 4.0 percentage points.
