Labor Unrest in Inner Kildare

Post by Thadeus Laing »

From the Age-Globe:

There is currently much labor unrest in Inner Kildare. 14,000 workers went on strike yesterday, with more strikes to come. Among industries hit have been defense and manufacturing. KAP in particular has been hard hit, and it is now petitioning the Kaiser for intervention.

Some of the more radical labor leaders are seeking nationalization of major industries. A few are even suggesting pro-business nobility step down and be replaced with socialist nobility. An even smaller minority, it is rumored, are anti-monarchists and anti-nobility--but this is an extreme minority and they do not have any influence over the current movement.

Thadeus Mooremont, of Inner Kildare, said, "In today's world we don't just want a turkey in every pot. We want a car in every garage. There is no reason why all I can afford to drive is a moped. This is Shireroth, not Antica."

A car?! The next thing they are going to demand is decent roads! This nonsense has to stop now! :whip:

In my days Kildare was a bastion against modernisation! My parents, my grandparents, their parents, their..., all lived happily in their small communities, isolated , protected and far away from things like electricity, cars,... (allright, their were and are places where this isn't the case).
Civil wars were done by armies of knights and infantry, not by rockets and with thanks. The thought that such evil would ever have a place in our well-established society is simply... horrifying!
Lord Melang, I will support you with all military troops I can offer you. We will crush this little rebellion!

Perhaps the agitators would like some help on the job? Mondesian refugees need work.

Ah! I remember those days when there were no Mondesians in Kildare... that were the days. :doc:

If the Mondesians are proving a burden, please exercise their 'right of return'. Our Processing Centres stand ready to offer a warm welcome to all returnees willing to accept our comprehensive package of Harmonisation Therapy.

From the Age-Globe:

The labor unrest in Inner Kildare has changed tenor. Nationalist-rightist groups have steered the disaffected laborers away from industry and towards the Mondesians. There are now calls for all Mondesians to be deported, or forcibly rounded up.

We return to Thadeus Mooremont, of Inner Kildare. Mr. Mooremont's views have changed: "Now I know the real enemy. It is not private industry. It is the Mondesians, and they must be gotten rid of. I don't need a car in my garage. I need vengeance." ("I need vengeance" is a popular slogan appearing on rightist pamphlets and posters throughout the capital, Shirerkeep.)

Why are there pamphlets in Shirekeep while the unrest happens to be in Inner Kildare? :nuke:

From the Age-Globe:

With the Dutch of Kildare having declared KAP's labor force nationalized into a local militia, the workforce of Inner Kildare has become once again peaceful and calm...

...Thadeus Mooremont, of Inner Kildare, whom the Age-Globe have interviewed on past occasions during this period of unrest, has become apolitical: "I have a job and a girlfriend now. I don't really care about politics anymore." This is the sort of sentiment that the Dutch is looking for among the population. Further, there are reports that anti-Mondesion rhetoric has become almost nil...

A first-generation Mondesian immigrant was elected by landslide to the City Council in one border town, something which would have been unheard of only a short time ago, after convincing voters that his national origins did not matter so much as his character and ability to lead.

Hhmm... couldn't we just let that border town 'disappear'? If it works in the Simpson Movie, why shouldn't it work in Shireroth? :geek:

From a balcony overlooking a square littered in pamphlets, a woman robed in red and brown, flanked by guards, turns to one of them, hands over a letter....

Take this to the temple in Shirekeep. You'll see in the dormitory there a window with a reader's markings below it. Give this to the old man.
Cousin, brother, whatever you are...

Good of you to finally show up. Thanks for leaving me to rot. It's only been five damned years.

I had wanted to get your old county working, but no, you disappeared, left me weak.

Still, I'd managed to build a little support. A few contacts, guards and the like. I've a few workshops and trade routes even.

Anyway, on what you asked me. The people's changable opposition to local authorities does not seem natural. Conditions do not look as I would expect for a place wanting to rise up against industrialists. You said that your cards (cards? yet another stupid fad of yours...you'll never be a great mage) told you something was up? Well I'm sure there is something going on. An agitator. Someone influencing things.

There is nothing I can do about it now though. I do not have the resources. I doubt I'll ever have the contacts to be able to clear things up from the inside.

So I'm leaving here. Speak to the Kaiser about getting a plot of land. I'll run it, doing the hard work for you so you can sit there alone with whatever scribbles you're doing now.

Your's

Ignatia.
