Mishalan Withdraws From Two Bears Treaty

The People's Soviet Republic of Mishalan - A communist land of clockwork robots and cavalry. Fans of Red Alert and steampunk would love this place. And we have cute bears.

Protesters gather in Mishagrad Square to rally against the Treaty of Two Bears

In a surprise move, Chair of the PGM Aleksandra Volkova announced today that Mishalan is withdrawing from the notorious Treaty of Two Bears. Citing the recent annexation by Elwynn as a major factor in the decision, she was quoted as saying that "Mishalan can longer abide being tied to Elwynn. It is clear that our futures lay along two distinct and separate paths." The treaty served as a major nuisance to the Mishalanski, which left Elwynn as the sole inheritor of the country. When Elwynn sought to enforce the terms of this treaty they quickly embarked upon a campaign of genocide and cultural destruction, attempting to wipe out Mishalanski culture and the long held Soviet traditions the people support here. After the annexation was vetoed, it became clear that any sort of union between Mishalan and Elwynn can never exist, and that Mishalan must remain truly free for the remainder of its life. Thus the seeds of dissent were sown.

As the PGM resumed control of Mishalan vocal opposition to the treaty also grew. Protests began to erupt in major cities. Mishagrad Square was packed with thousands of people as the cry went out to withdraw. Dissenters cried betrayal on behalf of Elwynn. Images of Vanic gods and goddesses were burned in the streets. Vanic temples desecrated and destroyed. Even Amokolia, which was for centuries associated with Mishalan, was not left unscathed. Having been dragged into Elwynn any traces of its former self had been blotted out, leaving Amokolia an empty vacuum that was quickly refilled with Vanic dogma. But the Vanified Amokolia had been such for so long that it too was no longer seen as brethren to Mishalan - they were now in bed with the enemy. Thus the protests spiraled, first from small gatherings and then ballooning into massive demonstrations. Mishagrad, Niu Vena, St. Riksburg, all across Mishalan the protests erupted. With so many rallying against the treaty, the PGM could do little besides ensure the safety of the people.

The Supreme Soviet, meeting through the PGM in an emergency session, voted unanimously to heed the will of the people and withdraw from the treaty. Volkova, acting as Chair, consented and signed the decree. The decision voids the treaty and withdraws Mishalan from the agreement. It does not, however, withdraw Mishalan from Shireroth, and retains special provisions to remain an Imperial Dominion. In effect, the decision simply severs all ties with Elwynn and dictates that they remove themselves from Mishalan in their entirety; an action already being undertaken thanks to the veto of Decree 940. The news was met with an uproar of cheers as Mishalanski celebrated their freedom. "Never again!" read the placards bandied about. Never again would Mishalan subject itself to Elwynn.
