The Marshals Come A-riding

The People's Soviet Republic of Mishalan - A communist land of clockwork robots and cavalry. Fans of Red Alert and steampunk would love this place. And we have cute bears.

The Marshals Come A-riding

Post by Jeremy H. Archer »

Through the thick woods of Mishalan, a group of men dressed in thick red woolen coats were riding. They had chosen to ride on horseback for this endeavour. The Mishalani forrests were not easily accessible for motorised vehicles. The group held a steady, determined pace. Now and then, the group paused, listening. It wouldn't be the first time that bears had been spotted in this place, and a sudden attack would certainly impede their mission.

Their mission was of paramount importance for the peace in these lands. The annexation of Mishalan by the State of Elwynn had been overturned, and now the Kaiser's peace needed to be maintained. The Marshals had been going around for days now, knocking on doors, escorting Elwynnese settlers to nearby stations or Airship harbours. Most families and officials had left already, anticipating their coming. The thick inlands of Mishalan, however, were difficult to penetrate. The more determined settlers had moved here, trying to hide from the law and stir unrest. That would not be allowed to happen.

The road that the Marshals had taken would lead them to a small woodland village. It was rumoured that some of the most prominent agitators, mostly devout members of the Vanic religion, were hiding there. Through the trees, light was shining, a signal that the village was near. Finally, let's get to work...

When the Marshals entered the village, the first thing they noticed was the silence. Not one single sound except for the creeking of the wooden houses in the cold wind. The town seemed abandoned.

"Let's explore this" the group's leader said "there must be some clue as to where those damn folks are."
"Aye sir"

The men climbed of their horses and began knocking on doors. It didn't take long for them to realise that indeed the houses were empty. The group's leader, Chief-Lancer Horace Costell, began searching around on the town square. There were several traces of fire, some abandoned clothes and here and there, the ground was wet with foul-smelling substances. "Must be one of those damned pagan rituals", Costell thought "gross."

Suddenly, his eye was pulled towards a patch of grass in the corner of the square. It rained the morning before, and it was obvious that horses had stood over there.

"Lancers!" Costell shouted "They've left on horseback, quick, they cannot be far!"

The Marshals jumped on their own horses and continued their pursuit through the woods.
