Tension in Mehlville

Post by Nathan »

The city of Mehlville has long been a melting pot of various people. The eponymous Mehl founded the city when Natopia first reached across the continent. It's role as the primary trading port of the Tapfer mainland brought people from all across the southern hemisphere. After the reorganization of Natopia the city's population swelled with those former residents of New Draceheim. The people were hopeful they would one day be able to return to their homes when the central government could begin reclaiming the land after stabilizing the priority zones.

That never happened. Merely five weeks after the Reorganization the Vikings landed their longships on the shores of Lavalon. Fortunately the Universalists were able to chase the Vikings off the peninsula, but they resettled farther west. The land was devoid of resources, so the central Natopian government ignored the protests of the refugees living in Mehlville, yearning to return to their land.

The recent and sudden escalation of Natopian-Stormarker relations prompted the organization of a lobby group, Restore New Dracoheim Now. RNDN soon found itself incredibly popular after Natopia broke off its long time treaty with Stormark out of protest and disgust over its interference in an internal Elwynnese matter. People across the entire March of Klaasiya, and even farther away, began to send donations and show support for reclaiming New Dracoheim. The tension and mild betrayal all Natopians silently carried with them ever since the Vikings invaded Lavalon now had an outlet. Peaceful rallies have been held in Mehlville almost on a weekly basis ever since the treaty was voided, people shouting the rally cries of "Restore the Bite! Close the Gap! Kick them out! Natopians for New Dracoheim!"

The Marquis was spending the week in Klaasisitya, attending to demesnial affairs. Mehlville was an incredible distance away from Klaasisitya and most Klaasiyans and Mehlvillians never fully considered Mehlville to be part of Klaasiya, therefore the demesnial government generally remained aloof in Mehlville affairs. These protests, however, demanded the Marquis' attention. In a public statement released to news media and sent directly to leaders of the RNDN, the Marquis vowed to take steps to remedy the situation in the coming days.
