The Sons of the Mountain
A General History

The Sons of the Mountain began as a group of disgruntled soldiers, mostly Apollantean, who had become unhappy with the way the Old Empire had been shoved aside in lieu of the Jingdaoese hierarchy. Strong nationalist sentiment carried the idea that Apollantis should dominate the state. Instead it had been relegated to serving as an appendage to a cult of personality. When the last of the Christophoros line died out (or so the official documents say) many of the Apollantean legions deserted and made their way into the green, living day-to-day as mercenaries. It wasn't long before these mercenary groups began to absorb soldiers from other countries. Many Shirerithians, also dissatisfied with the system of oppression destroying their country, had also made their way into the anarchic free-for-all known as the green. They found a long lost kinship in the Apollanteans, and as the groups grew they absorbed more and more soldiers from more and more cultures. Batavians, Treisenbergers, Alexandrians, Stormarkers, Brettish, and many more soon began to swell the ranks. And the obvious cause was general dislike of the new orders that had come to dominate Micras.

Thus it came to pass that these soldiers - calculating men with calculating plans - soon began to develop a plot. Their numbers were vast. Their agents were well hidden. They could strike at the heart of a superpower and scatter upon the wind, completely untraceable. And so the Sons of the Mountain was forged at a secret stronghold buried deep in the mountains. These soldiers of liberty would free Micras from the yoke of tyranny that the oppressors had reigned it under. If the world had become too stagnant, too passive to make the necessary changes, then they would force their hand. Sadly, people would die. But it was an acceptable sacrifice that must be made in order to bring greatness to the future.

Under the guidance of Agent Zero, the organization has secretly established sleeper cells within all the nations of Micras. These agents lie in wait until given the order; whereupon they wreak havoc upon the enemy. They could be anyone. It could be your brother or sister. It could be your babysitter or the bartender. Inconspicuously hidden they pass as the everyday upstanding citizen of whatever nation they reside in. In truth, they are the loyalest of citizens, for only they truly understand the depredations to which their country has fallen, and are willing to sacrifice themselves to see it liberated. These brave souls are the Mountaineers, the Sons of the Mountain.
