WHEREAS it is desirable that there is a library of items Istvanistani, and

WHEREAS it is appropriate that it memorialises the sacrificial oxen of old,

THEREFORE it shall be named the Bibliotheca Aurei Bovem, and

THUS it is so manifested.

Do you think he should be?

Oxen usually are?

The definitions in English and Dutch are slightly different it seems! In Dutch an 'os' is always castrated, in English an ox is an animal that is used as draft animals and usually castrated.

They don't have to be, but given that Bous is an undomesticated bovic deity, I would expect that such mortal concerns are considerably beneath him.

The etymology clearly shows a common ancient origin, but in English an ox can also be any wild bovine (especially of the genera Bos or Bibos).

It's transliterated classical Greek for cow/bull (βοῦς).

It is generally used without an article to make the gender ambiguous by intent. However, in the motto of Athlon, Bous is given a feminine article (ἡ) as the motto is very old and originally refers to praying to the Butter Cow only, before the Bull, Spirit, and Man Bovic deities were revealed to us.

Used in the general sense, "Bous" is like the term "God" and is often used as a masculine term. One may refer to Bous as male or female or neuter, however one feels most comfortable.

The Bovic Church uses "Bous" as the collective term for the four butter deities: Butter Bull (form of an un-castrated male Bos taurus), Butter Cow (form of a female Bos taurus), Butter Spirit (non-corporeal), and Butter Man (form of an un-castrated male Homo sapiens). It's usage is therefore similar to the usage of the term "Godhead" in Mormonism in that it refers to distinct deities that share a common divine will, or purpose, or unity.
