[Cape Farewell] Funeral of Kaiser Ayreon

The site of pilgrimage and orgiastic excess during the infamous Roqpin summer festival. Keep a cautious eye out for emotionally overwrought Elw as you wander the tundra cliffs, they are liable to tell you of their willingness to bleed for their country - followed by a practical demonstration of the same.

[Cape Farewell] Funeral of Kaiser Ayreon

Post by Daniel »

Kaiser Ayreon, a child of Cape Farewell, died on 9 September 2008. But it was not until 17 April 2009 that Ayreon was put to rest. Story is in three parts, first the speech from the Sagart, then the response from Rai Avon-El, inheritor of Ayreon's estate, and then the response from Oroigawa Koreyasu, the former ruling steward of Shireroth following Ayreon's death.

EULOGY BY SAGART MAC SEAISCANT

We are gathered here today to bury Ayreon of House Kalir, the one hundred and second Kaiser of Shireroth.

He died as he lived: quietly, but with his people foremost in his mind. With his death, he ended the civil wars between the Yardistani and Elwynnese claimants to the throne that had marred the last few reigns, foiled the Babkhan bid for control of Shireroth, and ushered in a new era of peace.

In all things he shunned pomp and ceremony. He took the royal name "the Quiet", and refused the royal number other Kaisers considered their due. He avoided the spectacle of a royal funeral in Shirekeep in favor of a quiet burial here in his ancestral home, under the rites of a religion dead for centuries but which he still held faith in. We will not disappoint him, yet a few short words must be said.

Kaiser Ayreon's line, the Andelarion family, has once again risen to prominence in Elwynn. Under their enlightened rule, the scars of the past are healing, the old forests regrowing, and the land between the rivers is happier and more fertile than ever before. Even the windswept rocks of Cape Farewell seem a little greener. Perhaps it was Fate that kept the old Kaiser above ground long enough to witness the renaissance of his homeland. Now he can go in happiness and peace to Tirbal, land of the gods, leaving no regrets behind him. Would that we can all someday say the same.

May Jestun's silvery boat guide him across the river of memory to that final shore beyond our sky. May his fate be good, as he was.

Farewell, sweet traveller, till we meet again.

REACTION FROM RAI AVON-EL

Rai stood on the cliff, among the small quiet gathering of people, thinking of his long-lost mentor, from whom all had been given.

Once the Sagart had finished his speech, the crowd stood still and silent for a long while, until Rai took to word and shouted out:

PEACE OVER THE MEMORY OF AYREON!

RESPONSE FROM OROIGAWA KOREYASU

Aye, peace indeed. May it accompany him for the rest of time.
Ghost of Dâniyal the Dead
Disturb not my sleep!
