An Ordinary Day in the Citadel?

Post by Verion »

It seemed like a day like all others. King de Montfort had been busy the entire afternoon to decree new laws, to control new military action and to issue arrest warrants for possible traitors. And now, there was only one last thing to do, a weekly meeting on state security. That was just a formality, tonight, the king would be off and could finally enjoy the last episodes of 'Hail to the Motherland' the latest television show produced by the department for propaganda.

On his way to the conference room, de Montfort noticed a group of soldiers. Dressed in a black uniform and wearing an unfamiliar green-black-blue armband with "Legion X I" written on it.

Strange, he couldn't recall this being an official unit. He shouldn't forget to bring this up to Lacroux. The man is in charge of the national guard, he should keep him informed.

The king stepped into the conference, Lacroux and some other officers rose up from their chairs. Strange, the conference room looked almost empty. Plenty of officers were missing. If there is one thing de Montfort hates, it's laziness. Time to dicipline them, but that's for later.

"Allright" he said "Let's begin."
1.Titus Morvayne, Prefect of Shirekeep, Count of the Skyla Islands
2.Eki Aholibamah Verion, Queen in the North
3. Ludovic Verion, Lord of Blackstone and Governor-General of the Iron Company
4. Jeremy Harwinsson Archer, super sleuth

De Montfort was quite suprised when sir Lacroux came up to him and told him to sit back. What was this? How did this man dare to talk to his king in this way? Of course, Lacroux had been his closest companion and was allowed more than others, but surely not in front of the entire security council?

"Lacroux, what are you doing? I am not sitting down!"
"Your Majesty, just do it, there have been several incidents you need to know of"
"Incidents? What incidents? And why are there so many people missing here? Wait, What are those two doing here? They are traitors!"

The king had discovered Michael Pinat and Jack Veron, sitting among the councilmembers. He couldn't understand what was going on here. Something definitely was very wrong...

"Your Majesty, I fear that the others are, shall we say, unable to come here. It is just us today."
"What do you mean Lacroux?!"
"I'm afraid it is over."
"WHAT?! What is over?"

Jack Veron stood up and shouted something the king didn't quite understand. About ten soldiers, dressed in black, entered the room and secured the entrance. Veron walked up to the king and spoke:

Lord de Montfort, today your rule comes to an end. The Council for National Unity will henceforth be the government of this nation. You, sir, have been deemed a destructive force for this nation and are hereby sentenced to death.

De Montfort didn't know what to say. This was what he had feared for a long time now. Those he trusted had betrayed him. He knew that was his biggest mistake. He shouldn't have trusted anyone. People always disappoint, always. He didn't say a word when several soldiers led him away from the room to the direction of the dungeons.

Around him he heard shooting, he heard screaming and he heard people bursting out in patriotic songs. New songs, he hadn't heard yet. It was over.
