Grazing Lands

The government of the Reindeer Herder Nation was established to provide common ground for all reindeer herding peoples in the northern lands of Keltia. To that end the role of the government is to protect the rights of those people and safeguard the resources of the herds.

It has been a longstanding practice to migrate herds onto new lands both for seasonal changes and to provide a more sustainable grazing model. Studies have shown that if grazing pastures are rotated regularly, they rebound faster and with greater vigor/health. It is also necessary for herds to be moved to warmer fields further south in the cold winter months, and then in summer to migrate north again.

As such, we have developed a grazing map. The nation applies no official claim to these lands and considers them a "common" resource. Herds and herdsmen can move freely back and forth in these areas as needs may necessitate. The government, for its part, is obliged to protect the herds and the people that herd them while they are in these areas. It does not, however, tax these areas as they are not officially a part of the nation. Likewise the government does not provide infrastructure for these regions besides very basic provisions for herders under temporary residence.

My Lord Chieftain,

A High Priestess notices that the above mentioned common grazing lands of the several reindeer herding peoples are partly in Stormark's new Duchy of Østfold now.

She is of the mind that a treaty between the Nation of the Reindeer Herders and the High Realm of Stormark as manifestation of the peace and goodwill between the aforesaid nations would be desirable.

Her High Holiness also thinks that it would be prudent to let such possible treaty safeguard the access to those traditional grazing lands for the aforementioned reindeer herding peoples as well as provide for other matters of import. :-D

High Priestess,

I am of a similar mind in regards to the Duchy of Østfold, since it looks as though our southern grazing lands abut Stormark's borders. It would be best to devise a treaty that assures the best interests of both parties are satisfied. To that end I will open a new thread for us to deliberate on this matter in the Circle of Tents.
